Eon direct debit

Bit of a long one, sorry. I pay Eon £130 pm for combined fuel. In July they informed me that despite this, my account was £477 in debit. They suggested that I up my DD to £200 pm, a ridiculous amount. I paid the debit amount immediately, and emailed to say that I wanted my DD to remain at £130. I got a reply, thanking me for the payment and confirming that my future payment would remain at £130. Checked my bank account on Thursday, only to find that have taken £200 after all! Emailed asking them to rectify the situation, but have had no reply. I am incensed. AIBU?

No, YANBU.

Can you contact your bank, and show the e-mail exchange, and quote the direct debit guarantee at them?

Thank you so much, next. I wouldn't have known where to look for this TBH.

Is your usage correct based on actual readings as opposed to estimates?

LilyBossom · 21/09/2013 20:42

you need to contact your bank, tell them the dd was claimed in error without your permission and you want them to refund you immediately via the dd indemnity scheme. Eon are not allowed to take the wrong amount without your permission. The bank will refund you, but you may need to be persistent.

TBH, Geordie, at this moment I don't really care. It's the fact that they've taken money without permission that's my issue

Sorry.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/09/2013 20:57

We took eon to the ombudsman due to crap billing, we won too.

They are on my list of companies I won't deal with.

LilyBossom · 21/09/2013 20:58

Moggie you can get your money back (see what I wrote above) - but I agree to checking bills and if they are ever estimates it is always worthwhile reading the meter.

moggiek · 21/09/2013 21:07

I will check that the readings are correct. DS3, who is a one man energy syphon, has moved out, and DH and I are unlikely to use as much as £130 a month.

YANBU I'd be fuming too and would probably change suppliers tbh once it's all sorted out.
