They keep writing about food they find delicious and end the description with (and it makes my teeth hurt to write this) the words 'nom nom'.

Is this:

A) acceptable and IABU
B) unacceptable and I should gently suggest she perhaps use 'yum yum'
C) completely unacceptable and should be De-friended immediately?

I can be unreasonable about munching noises, I nearly came to blows with someone chowinh down on some crisps on a train once... and lost it with a co-worker who sat across from me and was attemting to eat carrot sticks quietly for an entire 3 hours - And that magnum advert where she but through the chocolate coating made me pathologically enraged. As does 'nom nom'.

Shock YABU

Nom nom does not mean Yum Yum

Nom nom is the sound of you eating greedily. :o

blibblibs · 21/09/2013 21:26

Nom Nom is v v v irritating - defriend.

(but so is 'it makes my teeth itch' - how can you have itchy bloody teeth! Smile)

Judybluey · 21/09/2013 21:27

YANBU...although I have said this myself in the privacy of my own home whilst devouring something utterly delicious (on a diet) ....do not want to hear anyone else say this nonsensical phrase it sounds so stupid!!!!

daisychain01 · 21/09/2013 21:44

DH and I say nom nom nom when we are eating dinner as a complete pisstake of Facebook. Desperately irritating when on Fb though.

SamHamwidge · 21/09/2013 21:53

So glad someone else finds it irritating as fuck! I thought it was just me!

Also shortening.of words. Eg.totes ridic, amaze etc.

And one friend ends all his 'fun' posts with 'Marvellous!' which is growing in irritation with every usage. (Some people feel the need to invent their own catchphrase and use it ad infinitum cos it's so them and so endearing, no it isn't, go away.)

picnicbasketcase · 21/09/2013 22:00

Om Nom is the cute wee green alien from Cut the Rope, I like him. People saying nom nom about food is kind of gross.

HotCrossPun · 21/09/2013 22:03

YANBU. 'Nom Nom' is THE most irritating phrase.

I hid a friends posts on fb today.

They posted a picture of a black and white crying eye, and the caption was:

'Tears are 1% water...and 99% feelings'

Confused
Icelollycraving · 21/09/2013 22:07

Yum yum makes me feel quite ragey when said by an adult.

picnicbasketcase · 21/09/2013 22:07

Add a comment like 'And 26% saltiness, 57% chubbiness, 4% leather and trace amounts of fibre.'

Lora1982 · 21/09/2013 22:13

Nom nom aaaarrrgggh hate it. Ive found myself saying it to my baby :(

stubbornstains · 21/09/2013 22:13

I have a relative who says "Yummers". She adds this to most of her FB posts, as nearly all of them are about what she's having for dinner. Oh, and how cute next door's dog is. And the odd poisonous snake. Is that all they have to entertain them in Oz- poisonous snakes and piri piri sauce?

SHarri13 · 21/09/2013 22:16

I cannot begin to put into words how much I HAYE 'nom nom'. Yuck

Unfriend.

cardibach · 21/09/2013 22:19

'Nom nom' is ridiculous and irritating. I have taken to challenging its every use as I would with actual serious things like sexism. I expect IABU, but I can take no more.
I also hate all those critically loaded words for eating used frequently on MN: chowing down, munching on, chomping etc. Just say eating fgs!
Not sure if that answers your question, though, OP. I'd say b, but don't tell her gently.

SHarri13 · 21/09/2013 22:19

I wonder if it is especially annoying to those who can't stand eating noises? I'm like you OP and rage at noisy eating.

PoodleFlavouredFreddos · 21/09/2013 22:27

Omnomnom originated with the cookie monster, and 'got big' thanks to lolcatz and other memes..and cats on youtube.

I do like omnomnom in relation to slightly-amusing animal related meme's, but people that say it all the time because it is 'their thing' gets annoying after a few uses.

however. this will never not be funny -

SlobAtHome · 21/09/2013 22:32

hahahaa, for some reason I found that video hilarious and actually did 'lol'
