To ask if this is bad dry cleaning etiquette

I don't use dry cleaners very often so sorry if it's a stupid question

My vomit prone toddler has just been sick on my dry-clean only wool dress, which will teach me not to get changed after work.

I've lightly swiped it with a baby wipe, cleaned the buttons etc, but it's still obviously sick drenched and very smelly. Can I take it to the dry cleaners like this or will they think I'm gross? I don't want to do anything else to it as I'm worried about it staining or ruining the wool somehow.

No, I think they're probably quite used to it. When I've taken coats that had sick on them New Years Eve I've put them in a bag and just apologised for the sick!

I'd take it in and tell them what's happened. I had some trousers once that I had dry cleaned, when I picked them up she told me there had been blood in the crotch i was mortified as i had no idea but she said it happens alot. Point of that story is they have probably seen vomit covered stuff before!

I once got stupidly drunk on tequila one night, got a taxi home and was sick in the back of the taxi (the shame.....Hmm). To avoid being sick in the actual taxi, I threw up into my pashmina but covered my wool coat also.

My husband drenched my coat in water to wash off the sick, and left it to dry. Idiot, but I was hardly in a state to advise him what to do, and it was all self induced...

Anyhoo, I sheepishly took it to the dry cleaners the next day using 'sick child' as my excuse, and it was cleaned no questions asked. Thy prob saw throughout thinly veiled lies buy hey ho. Coat back an all fine.

Turns out I was very early preg (like literally 1 week conceived) which obv made me react badly to the tequila (ha ha, yeah right!) and I have since had a real life child (mine) throw up in me. Karma eh!!!

I'm sure you'll be fine and that they've seen a lot worse!

Wow Lakeland do everything! Might invest

Thanks for the advice, I will drop it in tomorrow and run! Smell is just awful, now to tackle the carpet and toddler's clothes priorities

I had an enormous shit-hawk deposit the largest shite on me that I have ever seen outside a dry cleaners. I just turned in and said, "I'm so sorry". They cleaned the coat wonderfully. Must be worse than toddler vomit.

littleblackno eek mortifying! Surprised she said something but I guess she had to, lest you thought they'd caused it. Eek

sleepy that is a brilliant example of karma indeed

Why not wash it? Wool is perfectly washable. Use a handwash liquid like Ecover or good old-fashioned soapflakes and lukewarm water. Don't beat the hell out of it or screw it up, just swish gently and squeeze the water out. Dry flat on a towel, having first rolled it flat in a towel to get the loose water out.
Easy. I do all my cashmere like that, or even in the machine sometimes Grin
