I can't get on the wagon to even fall off of it. I am desperate but can't pull myself out of the vicious cycle.

I had a very brief stint on ww many moons ago but am a sw girl previously with much success but can't seem to crack it second tim around.

tell me about ww...what you love/don't love..how much you've lost in how long etc.. .

Why don't you try in the rather massive weightloss section? This is aibu.

RiotsNotDiets · 19/09/2013 13:40

YABU to ask here.

But no diets work in the long term, so don't waste your money on WW or SW.

SkinnybitchWannabe · 19/09/2013 13:42

Ww didnt work for me. Had to weigh and cook my food seperately from my DH and DS meals.
Loving SW, Ive lost 3.5st so far and I know I can lose the rest.

Lost a stone on WW a couple of years ago, was very pleased. When I got complacent and put it back on they had changed to a new system called ProPoints which never worked as well as the older Points for me. What I most liked about it was the app, as keeping a food and progress diary keeps my motivation going and helps me slim.

However it was very expensive for that, and the technology was quite poor considering the size of the organisation in question; you'd think they'd be a bit more up to date.

I downloaded MyFitnessPal app and have been using that since January. I've had breaks for holidays etc where I just eat whatever I want, but I have lost 2 and a half stone since New Year. It gives me what I needed from WW, only for free...

WW didn't work for me. The thing which has worked is determination and changing my way of thinking about food and exercise without resorting to dieting/banning foods.

tywysogesgymraeg · 19/09/2013 14:56

Don't waste your money. They make their money out of you failing to lose weight, and by selling you food that you can buy in the shop.

Get a friend to weigh you at a set point each week - far more embarassing to not have lost any weight in front of friends. Better still, find a fat friend who also wants to lose weight, and get some competition going by weighing each other each week.

And eat less. Count your calories with MyFitness Pal, and share your food diary on there with a friend.

It also took me a long time to get to a place where I could do something about losing weight OP.

One day just took myself in hand, and joined ww 14 weeks ago and have lost 18 pounds so far. It really works for me.

Yes it cost more than doing it by yourself, but I've tried that and I never stick to it.

The only reason they can make money out of people going back again and again is because people stop eating in a healthy way and pile on the pounds again. I don't think you can lay the blame for that on any weight loss scheme. You can't go to ww or sw or whatever and lose 2 stone and then a year down the line put on 3 stone, because you're stuffing yourself on crisps and junk food, and then say the dieting business is exploiting people because their diets don't work.

My daughter lost a lot of weight with ww about 12 years ago and has never put the weight back on because she know what she should be eating to stay slim. She's not obsessive about it and enjoys her food, but never wants to be overweight again.

I tend not to buy any of the ww products as I find they don't help with the weight loss. I cook from scratch, mostly the healthier types of food I've always eaten, and cutting out the rubbish.

I know that sounds like I should be able to do it on my own, but for whatever reason I find that really difficult.

Something needs to click in you to be honest before you should go down any healthy eating route.
I lost 2 1/2 stone with WW and got to goal in 4 months and have maintained now for 4 years.
It worked for me but I was determined to get the weight off and keep it off.
WW is just like any calorie controlled diet. If you liked SW and had success and you can't do that now - then you won't stick to WW either.
WW worked for me because you can have what want you just have to point it and you also have some extra points to use on treats or a meal out or a drink of an evening etc....
But like any weight loss programme you need to be in the right frame of mind to tackle it.
The other great thing about WW is that it is easy to maintain once you have got to goal. I needed the meetings though. Needed that smug feeling of losing every week when others around me obviously weren't sticking to it properly. Bad I know but I'm very competitive which helps in this kind of situation.
I do hope you get your 'place' and can get going with things.
Good luck!

I maintained a 6 stone loss for four years before getting pregnant, along with this I work 60 hr weeks now and that has been very testing. I have three Stone to loose and need somthing fresh to focus my mind. ww appeals right now because it has a better 'on the go' tools ..apps/better website. I have a short amount of time in which to loose a fair amount of weight before my wedding day and hopefully next pregnancy. Right now it's about somthing working now. . im due to go part time soon this extra time will be a big turning point (I love to exercise but simply have no energy reserves or time to do enough)

apologies for posting in wrong place. clearly iwbu!

WW was the only plan that ever worked for me. 10 years ago I lost 3st, which I kept off until I had my DCs. I rejoined 3 years ago, got back to goal - 21lbs was all I needed to lose this time. Both times were on the old points system.

I trained as a leader at the same time as the ProPoints plan was launched and worked for WW for just over a year.

For some reason the PP plan didn't 'click' with me at all and I am currently 2st overweight. No matter how hard I tried I could not get it to work for me and I felt hungry all the time. I have spent the past 18 months flogging a dead horse trying to lose the weight!

In all fairness it can and does work; I saw many members lose weight and get to goal using the ProPoints plan, it just wasn't for me.

I'm a firm believer that for each person there is a system/diet/whatever that works. The key, as hellsbellsmelons says above, is whether you are ready to lose weight - whether your head's in the right place - that's the main part of the battle. If you're focused you are less likely to cheat.

A couple of days ago I signed up with SparkPeople, which is free. The app cost me (from memory!) £2.49 and has given me tools that are very similar to those available with WW - trackers, articles, message boards, etc. Definitely worth a look.
