To cut the feet off DD's sleep suits?

DD is 10m. I have new sleep suits 12-18, but these are too big, but her 6-9 fit her everywhere but her legs, so I chopped the feet off. I think this has worked out great as she can crawl round happily without the soft feet causing her to slip.

DH thinks I've been VUR and should have just bought some that fit. Okay, we could afford some more, but why should I pay for something just because I can?

Who is being UR?

I'd've tried some 9-12 month ones first. But not unreasonable to make use of something which otherwise fits. Depends on whether you wanted/could have sold or passed them on I guess.

cut the feet of for extra growth and wear, then if you are concerned about cold toes, pop some socks on dd. why buy more yet if the current ones still fit and are comfy, we all know how quickly little ones grow !

AmazingDisgrace · 19/09/2013 12:52

YANBU I did the same thing with DS2's sleepsuits (they were just plain non expensive ones and had previously been worn by DS1 Smile

KellyElly · 19/09/2013 13:47

I did the same thing and then started buying her footless sleepsuits as the feet and size never seemed to match as she was very slim and long with big feet.

Navycake · 19/09/2013 14:03

YANBU. My children are all very leggy and their sleep suits fitted perfectly if I cut the toes out. Less slippy too.

MrsGarlic · 19/09/2013 14:03

I haven't, but purely because I'm thinking to keep them and use them for child no.2 if and when we are lucky enough to have another. I wouldn't say you're being unreasonable though.

BrianTheMole · 19/09/2013 14:08

I'd cut them off. You'd have to buy new ones otherwise. Save the cash and use what you have. If you have another child you can use the saved money for new sleep suits.

thebody · 19/09/2013 14:09

I thought everyone did this anyway.

Fairylea · 19/09/2013 14:11

Yanbu. I did this with both my dc's clothes ! :)

My mil gave me some very pitying looks as if we couldn't afford new clothes but actually I just didn't see the point of spending money when I didn't have to! . I used to roll the ends up and stick bright socks on, very cute.

CecilyP · 19/09/2013 14:14

You might find that she has grown out of the footless 6-9 months and the 12-18 months are still too big, so you might have to buy 9-12 months anyway.

Not exactly unreasonable but maybe not as sensible as you may have thought. Perhaps my point of view is influenced by a friend who was given outgrown first size sleepsuits by her sister - all with the feet missing.

80sMum · 19/09/2013 14:15

YANBU. I used to cut the feet off my dc's babygros. It meant that they could wear them for longer, without the foot section being too tight and pulling on their delicate growing feet.

skaen · 19/09/2013 14:15

DS still misses one particular sleepsuit where I cut the feet off so he could carry on wearing it. It was 12-18 months, I put it in the rag bin when he was 3 and it came to mid thigh.

steppemum · 19/09/2013 14:18

I have done this, as ds had very long feet, so his toes were always squashed. But I wanted to save them and pass them on too, so I only did it with one set and then bought footless ones

Were your DD's feet were inside the sleep suit at the time? That's the only scenario that would justify your DH's reaction IMO Grin

If not, then YA soooooooo NBU

OctopusPete8 · 19/09/2013 14:56

I've done it on occasion, as long as some socks at the ready to keep feet warm.
