to think DH should have moved the furniture by now?

We have some new furniture coming this morning, which I bought last week. DH knows I have bought it, he knows it's coming. I asked him to help move the bedrooms around to accommodate it - after I bought it; at the weekend [several times]; last night; this morning. It's arriving in the next couple of hours and I've just had to move a wardrobe and hoover on my own, whilst he's in the study next door, playing with a new door handle for his car!

Once it's arrived, the old stuff needs moving out [I did ask for it to go out in the garage too, but he's not done that either], so I'll either have to do it myself or ask a male friend to help me do it.

I have a bad back, torn ligaments in my knee and cystitis right now, so I do need a little help.

AIBU to ask that he helps me out just a little bit?

Leave it for him to do when he gets home.

Morgause · 18/09/2013 09:42

Go next door and remove the door handle from his selfish grasp and tell him where it will be going if he doesn't get his arse in gear.

quoteunquote · 18/09/2013 10:27

Go out leave him to deal with it, tell him to phone you when it is completed.

StanleyLambchop · 18/09/2013 11:40

My DH is a bit like this, so I feel your pain.< eyes collection of cycling paraphernalia that is totally absorbing DH at the moment> On reflection, I think Morgause has the right idea.

You've moved a wardrobe with a bad back and torn ligaments? I could barely walk when I got cystitis never mind move heavy stuff! He needs telling. Now.

Dahlen · 18/09/2013 11:44

Consequences.

People don't change a pattern of behaviour unless there is a reward for doing so or a punishment for not.

Personally, rather than have a (possibly unproductive) confrontation with him (after which, nothing changes), I'd take quoteunquote's approach. Go out for the day. He will have to deal with it all and suddenly develop a new understanding of why you asked him to do what you did.

Tell the delivery people to put the furniture in his study.

livinginwonderland · 18/09/2013 11:59

Take the door handle and tell him that unless he gets his arse in gear, you'll shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

DoJo · 18/09/2013 12:26

Why haven't you gone into his study and asked him to help you? Would he actually refuse if you told him you were about to move a wardrobe on your own? Why are you doing it?

saggyhairyarse · 18/09/2013 13:28

Both my exs were like this. Some people will do nothing for others unless it is of direct benefit to them. Personally I vote for LTB! He can polish his door handle til his hearts content then, lazy swine.
