Should spend less on posting place mats, pens and notepads etc?

Surely the production and postage of all of these items are costing an absolute fortune? Money that could actually be used on the charities works?

I get them and bin them, it feels like such a waste.

I hate them (the pens, placements & whatnots) too. Puts me off donating to charities that do this.

It's coming up for Christmas so more and more junk will be arriving along with guilt trip letters.

I don't read them, just dump them.

Ireallymustbemad · 18/09/2013 07:28

I hate them sort of thing too but their charity stats generally show that each £2 or so spent on such things (fundraising in general) brings in £10 so it is cost effective to do that.

Ireallymustbemad · 18/09/2013 07:29

"That sort of thing" not them!

I didn't know that, although these things must cost thousands upon thousands to make and send.

Unless royal mail fund it which I doubt

YANBU. We received our letter complete with pen and ugly flowery coasters yesterday.

It's so wasteful!

As well as it being a proven cost effective way of raising revenue, the Charities can declare such expenditure as a "business expense" ( or equivalent) and get tax relief on it.

That is in simple terms, im sure someone will explain it properly.
