I've just bought a second hand playpen, advertised as used a couple of times.....

I looked at it and it's spotless....exactly what I'm looking for, folds flat, two doors, netting top.

I'm a childminder.

I looked it up on the Internet when I got it home, to see if I had got a bargain or been ripped off...

I couldn't find it on any of the parenting websites. But I did find it.......In a petshop!

So Wwyd, let the kids play in it, or not?

of course you let them play in it! just give it a wipe first :P

riskit4abiskit · 17/09/2013 19:10

I would, as long as you clean it carefully first! I dont know why you wouldn't really, perhaps not if it was half chewed or something but you did say it was spotless!

wwydnoreallywwyd · 17/09/2013 19:15

It's brand new...So much nicer than my current one!

I'd do it without question for my dc's...but wouldn't you be a bit Hmm if you walked into your childminders and recognised it as a doggie playpen?

LOL, why not use it! It is fit for the purpose, whether for puppy or baby Grin

Tee2072 · 17/09/2013 19:18

Link to it?

Inebriatededna · 17/09/2013 19:39

I wouldn't be happy if my baby was in a playpen with netting on top sounds more like a cage

wwydnoreallywwyd · 17/09/2013 19:46

The netting on the top zips off....but it stops toysbeing grown in by older toddlers

ThePinkOcelot · 17/09/2013 21:18

I wouldn't have had a clue tbh, whether it was a doggy one or not. Can't say I have seen any playpens with nets on - long time since I had babies though.

ringaringarosy · 17/09/2013 21:20

do people still use playpens?what are they actually for?

netting on the top sounds awful.

3birthdaybunnies · 17/09/2013 21:22

Could make a cool den though! My dc always complain that the blankets fall in - it all depends on how you market it.

GrinchAnInch · 17/09/2013 21:23

I think we need a link to it before we can judge [nosey] Smile

bundaberg · 17/09/2013 21:24

show us a link!

Tee2072 · 17/09/2013 21:26

Did you really just ask: what are playpens for? Do you really need that question answered?

member · 17/09/2013 21:27

You had to look it up & you're reasonably well versed in baby/toddler equipment so unless any of your mindees parents are dog breeders/ trainers, I doubt they'll see it as anything other than a clean pen for playing in.

wwydnoreallywwyd · 17/09/2013 21:29

I'm not showing it to you just incase you come to my house and say....oooeeerrrr isn't that a doggie playpen?

My dd. Who is 8 has been playing in it all night and thinks it's 'well cool'

OP posts:
pianodoodle · 17/09/2013 22:22

The people who bought DD's old playpen from gumtree were buying it for their dog. I'm sure it's fine the other way around too :)

unforgettablememories · 17/09/2013 22:23

No it's not like that... It looks like a normal hexagon playpen

BraveLilBear · 17/09/2013 22:27

Tbh a playpen with a netted lid sounds a perfect way of maintaining baby v kitten's personal space. Please link... I've been looking for something like this!

BaldHedgehog · 17/09/2013 22:33

You're barking mad!

dog cage is much more sturdy than travelcot

only joking Grin

unforgettablememories · 17/09/2013 22:34

Small Portable Pet Playpen Dog Cat Exercise Enclosure Cover Indoor Outdoor Bag...in Australian ebay.

The picture I saw was without the pets.

It's not exactly the same, but it will give you an idea of what it's like

ringaringarosy · 18/09/2013 10:40

yes,i dont really know what someone would use them for?ive seen pictures of babies sitting in them playing with some toys before but why couldnt they do that without a playpen there?i dont really understand why someone would use one?i thought they were quite an old thing ive never seen one in real life before!

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 18/09/2013 10:45

Somewhere to leave a mobile baby safely while you nip to the loo?

WeileWeileWaile · 18/09/2013 10:47

We used ours as a travel cot in my mum's house when she was looking after DS

Smartiepants79 · 18/09/2013 10:49

Yes. Just use it. Give a thorough clean and stick them in it.
Playpens are very useful to keep crawling babies out of harms way whilst needing to do something else.
Shower, cook, toilet, etc. etc...

Small babies and puppies are extremely similar in my opinion! Grin
