To put ds water bottle in the bin?

He's come out of school and dropped it straight in soggy (from the rain) dog shit. On the actual mouth part too. I could have bleached/boiled/washed it up. But no matter how much cleaning I don't think I'd fancy putting my mouth on something that's had dog shit on it.

Would I also be unreasonable to ask the school/local councillor to send letters to the local residents them to kindly not let their dogs shit directly outside a school or at least pick it up after their dogs. It is disgusting and a constant problem, the pavement both sides of the road are covered in dog shit nearly every day and you have to dodge it when you walk, ds has trodden in it before and I know other parents have ended up with it all over their cars and houses a they haven't noticed.

It's one of those things that make me so angry that I'd never be able to bite my tongue if I aw somebody let their dog use the pavement as a toilet and leave it there.

YWNBU on both counts.

Dog muck is disgusting. As are the panted who do not clean up after their pets.

Ugh

TheBigJessie · 17/09/2013 15:56

I'd bin it too. It's just the thought of it. Eurgh!

It's like seeing a nit notice on the school noticeboard. Your head immediately starts itching!

DidoTheDodo · 17/09/2013 15:58

Straight in the bin. No question!

ElleBelly · 17/09/2013 16:05

YANBU that's revolting. Same problem outside dd's school. Infuriating how some dog owners just literally couldn't give a shit, it's so selfish and there is absolutely no excuse.

lljkk · 17/09/2013 16:06

I'd probably soak it in boiling watr several times & carry on using it. (Slattern's solution).

I love the unintended pun there. It really does bother me though, how hard is it just to scoop it up? Or at the very, very least avoid directly outside a school, well two infact as the secondary is directly opposite.

Not a slattern, I did consider cleaning it as it's his fairly new Angry Birds one, but I thought sod it, I'd buy another just so as not to have to clean it.

I might send an email to the head mentioning the problem and see if they have the capacity to send letters out, I expect they'll probably just put a note in the newsletter.

An email to the councillor, perhaps they would be able to get some signs put up?

Personally I think anyone caught leaving their dog poo on the pavement should have it posted back through their front door. Doubt they'll go for my method though.

I do love dogs and grew up with pets and you can't always help where they decide to go, but you can pick it up.

Ynbu same problem on the street my ds school is always loads of dog shit you have to dodge it no kean feat with a pram and 5yo in tow. Its not only disgusting but a health hazard!Angry

Hopingforno2 · 17/09/2013 16:17

*mean stupid phone

Crowler · 17/09/2013 16:19

Disgusting.

I would throw it out too.

Fucking heathens.

Birdsgottafly · 17/09/2013 16:21

I have a dog and if I dropped a bottle that I was going to drink out of onto the floor, which was covered in dog hair ( which it is during moulting season), I would bin it.

I would contact the council.

YourHandInMyHand · 17/09/2013 16:22

YANBU!

Angry Lazy dog owners annoy the hell out of me. I have a dog and it takes two minutes, if that, to bag it up and put it in the next bin you pass.

I've thrown a pair of DS's shoes away before that were covered in dog poo. In my defence they were cheap £3 primarni pumps. If they were clarks I'd probably have cleaned them (whilst vomiting).

Near my DS's school they have those stencil sprayed on signs on the paths saying to pick it up, and plenty of bins, but still loads of dog poo. Angry

ElleBelly · 17/09/2013 16:42

Hah only noticed that after I'd posted. Correction: They couldn't give a dog shit. Our school has put notices up but doesn't seem to make a difference. And those twats who bag it up then dump it in the hedge. Rage.

Dahlen · 17/09/2013 16:46

I am a dog owner. Dog shit on pavements drives me mad. I think the government should create some jobs and have a huge initiative to catch and fine the owners who let their dogs do this.

Dahlen · 17/09/2013 16:47

YANBU to bin it either. I'm sure it's possible to sterilise it properly, but ugh!

Hawkmoth · 17/09/2013 17:03

Your council should be able to direct enforcement officers to schools and hopefully catch them at it.

SilverStreak7 · 17/09/2013 17:14

Id have likely done the same as you OP

YourHandInMyHand · 17/09/2013 17:43

I think they should set up discreet cameras and catch them in the act and issue hefty fines.

complexnumber · 17/09/2013 18:00

Yes, bin it.

However I think you are BU to expect letters to be sent to local residents by school/council. That would be very costly and if it is done for one school, should it not be done for all schools?

EvaBeaversProtege · 17/09/2013 18:27

Our local paper has carried stories about dog owners letting their pets crap all over the pavements outside school.

Contact the local dog warden/environmental health officer at your council. They should have the remit to publicly appeal for dog owner to exercise caution & remind member of the public of the fines enforceable if poo not lifted.

My friends son's school wrote an open letter to the dog owners through a letter to the editor.
