To not take ds2 to Beaver scouts tonight?

I went for colposcopy and LLETZ yesterday. My husband is working away until late Thursday night, so I've got 3 kids, 8, 6, and 14 months to look after on my own. My car is in the garage too.

Ds2 has been counting down the days until he can go to Beavers for the first time tonight, but after the operation yesterday I'm not sure whether I can manage a 2 mile round trip walking, with 2 kids to occupy outside (possibly in the rain) for an hour...

AIBU to put my own needs first and rest at home, or am I being selfish?

of course you're not being selfish!

bit unfair for DS to miss out though - please find someone else who is also going to pick him up and bring him back

Sirzy · 17/09/2013 13:41

If you have nobody else who can take him then he will have to wait until next week. Not nice but the best solution.

WilsonFrickett · 17/09/2013 13:44

Can anyone else take him? If not, then YANBU. He'll be disappointed for sure, but hey, it's not something you should even be thinking about coping with tonight.

might be tempted to lie and say new boys start next week

Chopstheduck · 17/09/2013 13:46

yanbu.

Surely someone can take him though, if you were near me I'd do it.

ShepherdsPurse · 17/09/2013 13:46

I feel for you, but I would try my best to drag myself there or get someone to give you and him a lift. or a taxi, or something. He will be gutted if he is as excited as you say.

CatAmongThePigeons · 17/09/2013 13:48

YANBU but I would get him there if I could, it would save the upset that will come from missing it.

I understand how you feel, I had to drag myself to DS1s swimming lesson the afternoon after I had my biopsy, hellish, but it was the lesser of two evils for me, compared to an upset child

sewingandcakes · 17/09/2013 13:55

Unfortunately I don't know anyone else going, and my mum is away on holiday, so it's down to me. We've only recently moved to this area so i haven't got a support network at all.

I'm not feeling ill or anything, but I've not had LLETZ before so I don't know whether it would be foolish to walk, or whether it's ok.

If I feel ok later, I'll go, and hope that there's a cafe I can take the other 2 to for an hour. Ds1 has cubs tomorrow at the same place for an hour and a half, so tonight might be a trial run!

Well if no-one can take him, he'll have to miss out. It's a shame but these things happen. Please don't drag yourself out.

CatAmongThePigeons · 17/09/2013 13:58

Its fine to walk after it (I had mine under GA) and they said not to push it and monitor any blood loss. Is it far to walk?

It's all down to how comfortable you feell as it can be sore. Maybe you could do it in a taxi?

MrsJohnHarrison · 17/09/2013 13:59

I had the same procedure done last year and I took a couple of days off work. Tbh I didn't really need them, but was glad of the rest.

I would say, see how you're feeling, maybe give one of the leaders a call - maybe one of them wouldn't mind giving your DS a lift over?
Don't rule out either way until you need to.
Hope your feeling ok x

redskyatnight · 17/09/2013 14:07

I'm sure if you rang the Beaver leader and explained they would be more than happy for your and your other DC to stay during the meeting. I'm a brownie leader and I'd have no problem at all with this - actually we generally tell new parents they can stay anyway.

Appreciate that doesn't solve the problem of being able to walk, but one less thing to worry about?

sewingandcakes · 17/09/2013 14:11

MrsJohnHarrison thanks, I'm feeling ok, I've been taking it easy all day today, and feel like I should be able to make it.

It's a two mile round trip. Maybe I can walk there and get a taxi back afterwards if I feel that I need to.

I didn't consider not taking him until I spoke to a friend earlier and she said not to go.

Thanks for all your advice everyone Smile

Thanks redskyatnight, I hadn't thought of that. If it's not raining I'll be ok as there's a playground on the same road, but if it's wet then it'd be grim waiting around.

Taxi?

sewingandcakes · 17/09/2013 14:42

Yes, a taxi might be a good idea, especially for cubs tomorrow. I'll have to make sure I get cash out for one!

WaitMonkey · 17/09/2013 15:09

I would get a taxi, it isn't far so shouldn't cost much. But it would make life so much easier.
