To think I should get a replacement phone free

I have an iPhone 5, still under a year old the power button has stopped working so I cannot lock the screen or turn the phone off.

I rang up my contract provider who put me straight though to apple who gave me my options

  1. 10 working days no phone
  2. have a £600 lock put onto my bank account and I get to borrow a phone while mine is fixed
  3. drive hours to my closest apple store for a 10minute consult alot where if they cannot fix it in that time I get given a brand new phone
  4. see if my provider will give me a loan phone

Provider cannot give a loan but will give me £12.50 for being without a phone for half the month when my contract is over £60 a month..

I don't have a random £600 to be heled for 14+ days, we have birthdays coming up and a child just started school, I personally don't drive and for certain important reasons cannot be without this number for 10 days..

Aibu to think there should be somewhere local I can take it for a consult or be given a free temp phone since they will have mine anyway so I'm hardly going to steal the loan phone...

what do you want them to do & then people can comment on whether yabu :-)

cindersinsuburbia · 16/09/2013 16:47

but they wouldn't give you a replacement iphone anyway just in customer was at fault.

My brothers just lost his 4s and is stuck paying £25 odd a month for two years ouch!

Sidge was your iPhone over 6years old? Otherwise the eu-consumer law gives you in England a 6year warranty

I thought I would be able to take it to my local EE store to be sent off to be fixed and be given a temp phone to use without being £600 down for 14days

I had problems with the same button on a previous iPhone. If you google you might be able to find a solution.

I did. Saved a trip to Apple - who in all fairness are very good at just giving you a new phone.

If there is someone who can take you there - do it. It is the easiest option.

But you can't expect apple to just give people 2 phones and hope that they send one back.

It would just be silly for them to do that.

Chattymummyhere · 16/09/2013 16:52

Filee I'm not asking to have two phones I expected to hand mine over be given a temp refurb one? And when I hand the temp one back am I given my phone back, at no point ever having my phone and a temp one at the same time

But that's what you need to go to the apple shop to do surely?

judgejudithjudy · 16/09/2013 16:54

this isnt just apple - its most phone shops do this im afraid.

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 16/09/2013 16:58

EE should replace the phone then they. Should ake it up with Apple.

GerardButlersSecretLover · 16/09/2013 17:26

What is EE? I only ever read negative things about Iphones. im glad I have my blackberry!

Chattymummyhere · 16/09/2013 17:46

Everything everywhere they are orange and Tmobile put together...

Maybe if I wait till after the 20th they will give me the iPhone 5c then would be worth the travel and cost then
