To be really REALLY cross at Freecycle 'no-shows'

I've had a lot of these lately and it's putting me off freecycling TBH. It (no-showing) wastes my time and is unfair on those who have manners do show up or at least let me know they can't or have changed their mind.

Grrr.

I found freecycle to have a lot of time wasters on it to be honest. Better listing stuff on eBay as cheap as possible as people there seem more genuine. And like to think they have got a bargain.

I agree, freecycle drives me bloody mad.

My last big batch of stuff I listed, and put at the foot of the email: on street outside XXXX address NOW. Bin day tomorrow....

I actually put it outside the office of the lovely caretaker of the block of flats opposite our house (who had a bit of a soft spot for DS).

It was gone in about 3 hours!

Then we moved house, and DH tried to freecycle the microwave. I swear we waited in for 3 days (on and off) for some bloody man to come and get it.

Yes, unofficial street freecycling works a treat! Unfortunately this is a large piece of upholstered furniture so can't stay outside for any length of time.
It's the second time I've tried to freecycle it. First time, 3 months ago, I had 2 consecutive no-shows (I had loads of interest BTW) and now I've had another one. I've offered it to the next person but if they don't turn up I think I will do the Ebay thing - stick it on at 99p.

Ditto. We have Gumtree in Oz. They text you 'I'll have it' then you arrange a time with them, they don't turn up, or realise they're sooo stupid it's too far away for them to collect.

I give stuff away on my local FB selling pages, might be worth a try?

Flossyfloof · 16/09/2013 10:47

YANBU. It isn't much to ask for people to email and say that a friend has given you one or something. I think out local Freegle group has got much less active over the last year or so - I think it might be because of this - or maybe times is just hard.

liquidstate · 16/09/2013 10:51

I also find this annoying. Would a local charity collect it?

oldgrandmama · 16/09/2013 10:54

I feel your pain ... it's happened to me, too. But on the other hand, I've met a whole load of really nice people who've collected stuff from me, and some have become good friends. You win some, lose some ...

scampadoodle · 16/09/2013 10:57

In the past when I've investigated the charity route I've found it a bit of a palaver - you can never get hold of anyone then they only collect once every three years or something.

I think I'll contact the local moderators: it won't change anything but it'll make me feel better!
