If you sold something on eBay and it made 99p....

And was worth much more-

I "won" an item on eBay and have paid 99p. My maximum bid was higher- a fair price- but no one else bid.

I am embarrassed. It is a collection only item, so I will have to front up and hand over £1. Actually I feel like a twat. It wouldn't be so bad if it was going to be posted. Plus the seller has not replied to me asking where to collect from. This makes me feel worse. Similar items are listed as buy it now for £25/35- I don't know if they're selling but it would have cost £75+ new. ( it is nearly new.)

So if you sell something like this and it only makes 99p do you just grin and bear it? How would you feel about someone turning up at your house with 99p and AIBU to feel bad? Should I give them more anyway?

That's terrible, TeamE. :-(

If they wanted more, they should have set a starting price. I sell on eBay and set a starting price for items I know shouldn't sell for less.

It's the chance the seller took, it's happened to me, I nearly always list at 99p. Had to let something go at 99p which the buyer requested to collect as they were local, however my view on it is ebay has enabled me to sell stuff I would never have sold before eBay and made a fair amount on, you win some and lose some.

I read this thread at the time it was first started and I'm glad I did. I've won a sofa for 99p and I feel ever so guilty about it although the comments above are helping!

Would it be ok to take a big box of chocolates and bottle of wine when I pick up or would that look like I was rubbing the seller's nose in my good fortune?

If a seller doesn't put a reserve on something it probably means they just want rid of it! We sold about 25l of paint that was cluttering up the spare room for a fiver, which went to charity anyway. Would have freecycled it, but wanted certainty of speedy collection and someone to really want it not just take it just in case. So don't feel guilty! Though having said that, if I had been paying via paypal on a 'donate to charity' ebay purchase (not in your case), and I felt I'd got a particularly good deal, I think I'd have added an extra fiver!

Oops, zombie thread, sorry, didn;t read previous few posts.

I've got some stuff selling on ebay just now that is probably going to go for 99p. I'll be glad it went to someone who cared enough to make a bid - I've had a few 99p bargains off there myself and they were always well used so I don't mind things going the other way sometimes. My girls needed second winter coats for starting nursery and ebay supplied for about £9 all in including postage, and now they are their favourite coats!

I know someone who bought an ace bike on ebay for 99p - walked to collect it less than half a mile and the seller insisted on giving them their 1p change. I also know someone who went to collect a bike off freecycle - a gents bike - to find it was so brand new the tyres were not even dirty - she offered them some money they would not take it, just wanted rid - had bought for £300, was ridden once, and then it never got used.
