To rant about the GCSE results just turning up

Results came out on something like 26th August. Ds knew he couldn't collect them, and school had said they would post them straight out. He waited 5 days, and they didn't turn up. Kept phoning and going to the school, no-one there until the 5th day. On the previous 2 days he had gone into college to try and reserve his place on A-levels, which understandably they couldn't without the results. So on this 5th day he went into school to see if they had the results. Convo with teacher

'Hi, I was told to expect my results in the post, they've not come yet, are there any here?'

'Yes, there's a whole pile here, ready to be posted.'

'Excellent, can I please have mine?'

'No, these are to be posted.'

After a 15 min argument, she begrudgingly agreed to print something off. He then legged it to the college, who then queried it wasn't the official thing. They phoned the school to query one of the grades which was smudged and also asked for the original, which the school refused to release, said it had to be posted. They had to phone somewhere else also to get authority to accept the printout. They got authority, but reiterated that they needed the original as soon as poss.

Post has just turned up now, postmarked 12/9, his results have appeared. AIBU to think that's ridiculous? He's completed 2 weeks of college already.

That is disgraceful and the HT needs to sort it out for next time. Perhaps your DS should write a stern letter to the HT.

There's no way he'll be bothered. He just thinks it's funny now, it just follows the pattern of how they've been for 5 years.

But the 5 days wait was another story, he was beside himself with worry about not getting the course of his choice, since it's oversubscribed.

I'm glad he can laugh now Smile.
In his shoes, I'd rather enjoy the chance to tell them how incompetent they are now they have no power over him or his future any more [evil emoticon], I think I would aim for a polite but withering tone.

I'd report to the LEA. That is not on and they are potentially preventing other students from enrolling on courses.

He's still got to try and chase up (again) why his accountancy level 1 certificate has the wrong name on it.

And there's still a hoohah going on about why they forced him to take a foundation level paper for biology. When he tried to query it in the exam hall, they threatened him with expulsion. His overall grade is a 'b' and he's unlikely to have got an 'a' so it prob hasn't affected him, but he has to give evidence in an inquiry about another boy this happened to.

I can't believe he STILL has to attempt to communicate with his school. It was hard enough when he was there.

I've just noticed an attached letter asking him to enrol with their 6th form on 27th august.

Handy.

Dd wanted to go into year 14 at her school but they said there might be funding issues and would get back to her. This was about 25th August ish.

They got back to her... last week.

She's already enrolled at college thankfully.
