To enjoy sitting in my utility room when the washing machine is on?

I appreciate this might sound rather strange, but when I'm doing the laundry as I am today I enjoy taking a chair into the utility room with me and sitting there with a book. I find the white noise from the washing machine and tumble dryer relaxing and I feel I can really switch off for a while. I take the phone with me just in case someone urgently needs to get hold of me, but other than that its blissfully peaceful. No one else is home its just me, sometimes the dog will wander in and sit with me for a bit. But other than that I'm alone and relaxed.

Am I a weirdo?

Isn't the dull white noise of whirring washing machine, hoover or being in a moving car supposed to take us back to the sounds of being in the womb?

Hence why they're so relaxing.

I’m so so happy I found this thread is unbelievable the best thing Iv ever found … people who love listening to the washing machine as much as me!!!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/01/2022 01:59

That sounds really nice. I can really understand why it would be soothing

immersivereader · 22/01/2022 02:17

I understand that. Relaxing.

Why does this thread keep being revived? It's harmless enough but how are people rediscovering it years apart??

HufflepuffPride · 25/01/2022 23:24

I love any kind of white noise. So washing machines, dishwashers, fans, hairdryers the lot lol.

Yes I’m wondering that as well!
Notimeforaname · 26/01/2022 00:18

I'm afraid of the spin cycle on washing machines. Scares the crap out of me.
I have to leave the room or failing that, get out of the direct line of the machine door so if it flies off, I wont be killed.

You're a brave woman op 😂

Lolakai · 26/01/2022 23:34

I found it by googling is it normal to enjoy the noise of a washing machine 🤣🤣

Not at all, I could easily use it as an office and have the machines as background noise.
Lolakai · 26/01/2022 23:53

Yes I could listen to it in an office that actually sounds really lovely! I’m currently listening to the washing machine eating a snack that I shouldn’t be ha

PickAChew · 26/01/2022 23:56

My washing machine has a grunty pump. Nothing relaxing at all about it.

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/01/2022 00:24

I used to save my washing until the late evening as DD would only sleep with the washer on when she was about 8 weeks to about 6 months. Once she was asleep she was out for the count but getting her to sleep was the challenge, she was one who definitely thought sleep was for wimps!

Even now the sound of the washer makes me think its bedtime!

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/01/2022 00:24

I should add that DD is now 24 years old!

AutomaticMoon · 27/01/2022 00:44

Do you get ASMR? A tingling head feeling?
