Please someone take the stress out of this.

I need a sat nav,

I tried downloading an app to my phone but it doesn't always talk to me and its just not safe for me to try and look at it.

So I'm looking on amazon and they're priced between 35.90 and 296 and the reviews are all over the place.

I'm not made of money so would obviously like one as cheap as possible but would rather spend a bit more and have something more useful.

The reviews have confused me, how much is reasonable / sensible to spend and what constitutes a good sat nav?

I got one for £40 and it's absolutely fine. Prob the cheapest one on Amazon. I don't expect it to last forever but there was no way I was spending £200+

goforthejobular · 13/09/2013 11:55

I should say that mine gets used rarely. I perhaps would have spent more if I was going to use it regularly

That's the one I was looking at probably. Lots of good reviews and lots of bad reviews, same for the really expensive ones though Confused

Tom toms are on offer in halfords, get the largest screen possible, it really helps, when driving at night, or when you have rapid changes.

I went for tomtom, as it collects data from users, so when on fastest route mode, it will send you different routes at different times, great for getting across strange city at rush hour.

It's the sat nav of choice for taxi drivers across the globe.

I've lent mine to quite a few people who have said it far better than the one they had.

and remember not to put your exact home address in case it ever gets stolen, and have a cloth and window clean to the circle off the window when parking anywhere dodgy.

We have a Tom Tom ,the one thing I'd say is get one with the lifetime mapping as replacement maps can be £30-£40 and they go out of date really quickly .

Great, ill check out the offer in halfirds and just do what the helpful stranger said Blush

What Quote said.
And don't put your home address under "home". Call it something random like Lucys. (assuming your name isn't actually lucy)

A bloke who drives for a living writes: yup, TomTom. Fantastic kit, robust, fast and intuitive. Get the RDS-TMC dongle for jams if you can.

I have a tomtom and have done for the last 5 years. It has seen us safely across most of western europe and across the USA. I wouldn't be without one now.
