to let my 3 month old nap in a rocking swing?

My 3 month old is very colicky and a sleep fighter. Is it OK to let her nap in a rocking swing? It won't affect her development will it?

My two spent a lot of time in their rocking swing as babies, I think it's fine. They are now 14 and 11 and seem ok anyway.

Ours had awful music-i had to turn it off. Grin

no it's fine. ds3 slept a lot in the swing as he used to fight sleep and it always sent him off! he wouldn't even feed to sleep, weirdo Confused

Isn't that why these swings were invented?! At that stage you just do whatever works to make the colic better. So long as it is lmited to day naps and she goes in a flat bed at night i don't see a problem.

Our 1999 model had 3 reclining positions and the last one was not very raised at all. That swing was a Godsend.

MummyBeerest · 12/09/2013 19:07

It was a sad day when we retired the swing here.

If it works, do it.

mrspremise · 12/09/2013 19:08

If it works for you and it helps your baby, go for your life! Smile

kinkyfuckery · 12/09/2013 19:11

Why wouldn't it be ok? Recline it as much as you can, make sure it's not too prolonged a period of time, and put your feet up and have a cuppa!

TediousFool · 12/09/2013 19:12

DS lived in one of those swings when he was a baby.

Just to add a small note of caution - same as airways can be restricted in a car seat, which can reduce oxygen levels, - so they can be in a swing. Depends on the shape of the swing - just make sure the chin is 2 fingers' width off the chest. :)

If one had worked for us I would have worshipped it! Grin

DC2 lived in hers until she was almost a year as she was so tiny. She did get a bit dependent on it and couldn't nap without it but frankly she never napped anyway so who knows. We transferred her from swing to co-sleeper at night though.

I can categorically say it did her no harm as an almost 5 year old now, and it improved our sanity a thousandfold.

Thanks everyone! Smile Even though it is a reclined one, it doesn't go full flat (is there one out there like that that I can buy?). This one is the most reclined one I have seen. It certainly doesn't allow 2 finger width between chin and chest. Hence, ill probably have to be careful.
