my mum just spoke too did and asked what she had had for lunch. buttered crackers, cheese cubes and meatloaf slice along with a few other things.

apparently this is unaaceptable, a proper lunch has to be a sandwich or a hot meal Hmm and that you need to eat lunch things at lunch

am I totally losing the plot here?

I think piano means she took some of the pickle and cheese to put on her crackers

YADNBU. I usually have a sandwich, mostly because it's quick and easy, but an assortment of idds and ends is absolutely fine, and often better.

I had sweat and salty popcorn today, and smoked duck. Not the healthiest of lunches, but I enjoyed it.

pumpkinsweetie · 12/09/2013 16:53

I love a sandwich included in a lunch but i don't think it's compulsory that every one must be expected to always have one as part of their lunch.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/09/2013 16:53

HeySoul - there is nothing wrong with bread, unless it is plastic white sliced.

I love sandwiches. If you have nice ingredients then they are seriously delicious.
I am on a fast day today so I need to leave this thread now!

CMP69 · 12/09/2013 16:56

I had a hot beef sandwich and chips for lunch Grin
Bet that would freak her out

Teamjavert · 12/09/2013 16:56

A good sandwich is great though. I had roast aubergine, hummus, halloumi and lemon sandwich, the other day,and it was one of the nicest things I've ever had. Perhaps I'm easily pleased though.

squoosh · 12/09/2013 16:58

'sweat and salty popcorn' sounds yummy Teamjavert!

motherinferior · 12/09/2013 16:59

Most bread is terrific.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 12/09/2013 17:03

I just had a lovely sandwich as I missed lunch and have a meeting starting at 6.30 which means that I probably won't be in the vicinity of dinner until 9pm or so!

StuntGirl · 12/09/2013 17:05

Not really a bread fan. Can eat flatbreads and naans and things if I get to tear it and dip it in something, but generally sandwiches just taste too much of bread to me, and not enough of whatever yummy stuff I've filled it with.

Open sandwiches are ok.

Secretswitch · 12/09/2013 17:06

I had a bacon lettuce tomato and mayo on crappy bread for lunch..probably have it for tea too..

Pendeen · 12/09/2013 17:07

I had a white sliced bread sandwich today, with ham.

Very nice it was too!

We went to the seaside today and had a huge bag of chips with loads of salt and vinegar for lunch. Lush!
Was tempted to get a bap too to make a chip buttie - would that count as an acceptable sarnie?

squoosh · 12/09/2013 17:58

It would certainly be acceptable to me IfAtFirst! Chips always taste better by the seaside.

pianodoodle · 12/09/2013 17:58

a whole jar of pickle?

Lol no most of it went back into the fridge! There was quite a dent in the cheese block though Grin

25 wks preg - can't seem to stop eating but probably my last pregnancy so may as well enjoy it :)

FastWindow · 12/09/2013 18:09

My ds has that Danish bread. For me it has to be the cheapest, crappest white thick sliced. Makes excellent toast.
Me and DH often have dinner for breakfast. Pie, roast dinner, curry. What I really mean is brunch... In the old days... With a hangover. Job done.
And it's well known that cornflakes for a quick pre bed snack is the food of the gods...

NomDeClavier · 12/09/2013 18:24

Cereal in the evening is excellent.

Chez my parents it's less the actual meals that are a problem and more elevenses/afternoon tea. Elevenses must be doughnuts or Belgian or Chelsea buns. Afternoon tea is always a form of cake. Biscuits are not eaten before the evening, it must be cake Hmm. And sweet muffins are an aberration.

PILs must have a large plate of salad every lunchtime and some kind of hot meat or fish. Just lettuce with it.

In this house we eat whatever, whenever.

carabos · 12/09/2013 19:11

I could live on sandwiches and do when I'm home alone, sometimes for weeks at a time.

fatlazymummy · 12/09/2013 19:57

I had a sandwich for dinner. It was really nice. I tend to have some kind of sandwich every day, either for lunch or dinner.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 12/09/2013 20:03

I adore fancy breads from over priced artisan bakers.

But sometimes, nothing hits the spot like a plain white loaf (pan loaf,) butter and cheddar.
