That you do not tell the person serving you to please wait 2 minutes whilst you get money/another card from your car outside and then just piss off.

I had this twice today, £40 to £50 pounds worth of shopping, Once it has gone through my till I cannot serve anyone else unless I have a supervisor or manager come and void the whole transaction, I am stood there with people waiting to be served, Obviously had to call for another staff member to open another till.

The second one did come back 15 minutes later and was pissed off that they had to queue up again and that I had to scan all the shopping again,

Why do people do this?

In this situation, the customer INBU.
If the shop you are working in does not have the option to store the transaction, and it is causing problems for the staff when this situation occurs, it is your manager you should be complaining to.

In these times of hardship for lots of people, the shop should be doing more to avoid their customers who have this problem from feeling any more uncomfortable than they have to.

This is exactly why large supermarkets have the option of storing the transaction.

Tbh, if I was shopping in your shop OP, and my card was declined, the way your shop deal with this would make me want to disappear and not return. I can't believe you blame the customer for an issue your shop should be dealing with.

Lacking - that's horrendous behaviour by the petrol station. They normally have a 'no means of payment' form that someone in this position would have to fill in. This form has all the info the petrol station would need to pass to the police should you not come back with a means of payment within 24 hours. If you do pay within that time, the form is destroyed.

Lacking thats awful! They had no real right to do this, you should have called the police yourself and reported them for holding you hostage!
A similar thing happened to me at a restraunt, the card machine were broken and we didn't have cash so they just let us leave without paying. You are not refusing to pay they just don't have the means to take your money - their problem not yours.
