to buy ds winter shoes off ebay

DS needs new winter stuff, We're really skint. As in can just afford to eat if we menuplan and do pack lunches, avoid cafes and too much meat etc. So I've bought him a new coat and some jumpers and trousers off ebay. Excellent.

But now what about shoes. I've always just bought him new shoes from the shops as I wanted his feet measured and somehow felt he should have new shoes. But I know what size his feet are as I got him measured a couple of weeks ago. And theres lots of shoes in his size on ebay for a couple of quid, as opposed to thirty or forty in a shop.

So skint. Is there a reason why i shouldn't?

I'd wear second hand shoes. I do quite often. Should be ok shouldn't it?

Nope. Do it. Perhaps check if they have a returns policy before buying for your own peace of mind. But you can't magic money out of thin air, so don't feel bad about buying cheap if it's all you can do.

My 'nope' was in response to your first post, not the second!

i do it all the time my daughter got a new pair for £15 off there yes they are not the height of fashion but she walks 4 miles a day so they are very practical!

YANBU. used items don't necessarily mean they are not good. Especially with children's items. I sell loads of my sons stuff on eBay. It's in really good condition. I wouldn't sell anything personally that I wouldn't buy myself.
I am putting some if his winter boots on next time it's free listing. He's worn them a handful of times but now out grown them. They cost about forty pounds when I bought them for him. Ill sell them and put the money towards getting him some more. If that means u get him used ones, so be it. They grow out of stuff so quickly when they are younger that money goes no where.

not UR at all- I buy most of my DC's shoes from charity shop or ebay ( I prefer charity shop as you don't pay postage and can try before you buy)

definitely nothing wrong with it at all.

Presumably you mean new ones, just off eBay. I wouldn't give him shoes that some other little chap has had on all day every day for anything up to a year, moulding to the shape of their feet....toe fungus...ick!!!! Clothes etc, absolutely, once washed, perfectly hygienic, and a great way to get fab bargains, totally agree with you on those. But please do the same as deaky, and get a new pair off there for £10-15 (which is still an absolute deal) as opposed to worn ones for £5-£10.

My dd is lucky as we get her older cousins old shoes. I don't have a problem with 2nd hand shoes- most are hardly worn!

SugarHut · 11/09/2013 15:28

Just to add....if it was a pair of say, ski boots...I would say yes. These get worn one or two trips then get grown out of. I would say no to school shoes, due to the large amount of daily use a "worn" pair will have been subjected too.
