Period pain - couch bound :(

According to my phone calendar mg period ia due a week today. Pain started mildly on Friday, been getting worse and worse. I'm now pretty much stuck on the couch, tried going to bed but cant sleep. I've eaten but unsure if if I'll keep it down as feel very sick. I've got a lot of strong painkillers but they cause me to have hallucinations and drowsiness so not sure whether to take them.. I have dithered over ringing the GP but if its just period pain I dont suppose there's a lot they can do?

I am being queried for endo and awaiting a general next month for pelvic exam/coil fitting.. Should I phone the consultant/ward and ask them for advice?

Sounds like more than period pain to me. Are your periods normally this painful? If they aren't I would get medical advice.

buttermellow · 11/09/2013 14:09

Not normally painful before they start no, although the last twice they have been, its like a cramps feeling that seems to last a week suddenly turns into a sharp-burning type pain and then they start within an hour or so.. I did see a GP last week and they thought it might be a urine infection but all tests been completely clear, got another appointment made for Friday..

That sounds like a normal month for me :( I'd say to hell with it, if you have nowhere to be and you'll be safe doing so take the drugs and hallucinate away, pain and sickness free.

buttermellow · 11/09/2013 14:48

Well that's breakfast lunch and everything gone down the loo :( going to try to sleep for a bit. If I'm no better by 6 or so I'll try the GP

If this is unusual for you then I would definitely give your GP a call. Hope you feel better soon.

My GP prescribed me Mefanamic Acid (painkillers) for my horrendous period pain and it changed my life. Go and talk to your GP.

My period pains were exactly like being in labour complete with transition vomiting (I found this out when I actually went into labour and had first baby lol).

I found some relief for early labour pain with a Tens machine. Have you thought of using one to help with the period pain? Other than that, taking the pill reduces the intensity of the pain quite a lot. I used to take massive amounts of painkillers until my mum took them off me because she feared I'd take an overdose. The pain was so terrible I wanted to die... every month :(.

If your period isn't due for a week I wouldn't assume it was period pain unless you'd actually started your period?

My burst ovarian cyst started off feeling like period cramps.

Loveleopardprint · 11/09/2013 20:42

How are you feeling now?Thanks

ArtemisKelda · 11/09/2013 21:23

Rattlemehearties mefenamic acid was a lifesaver for me too. I used to be in agony every month until I had DS.

Buttermellow hope you're with a GP getting sorted and that you feel better soon Flowers
