am I? I'm not talking about anything alcoholic or a fancy coffee but a glass of water or plain coffee?
I'm currently looking for a new job and have had about 8 interviews in the last 3 weeks. only 1 place offered me anything to drink.Angry I always thought this was just common courtesy. so Aibu? obviously I need to worry more about not getting a job but still

YABU.

FeliciaDoolittle · 11/09/2013 12:45

Yes, YABU.

I have never been offered drinks at interview, nor have I offered one unless something has happened and things are overrunning.

Dackyduddles · 11/09/2013 12:45

Take your own small bottle surely.....?

EeyoreIsh · 11/09/2013 12:48

YANBU. They should offer you a glass of water.

Mckayz · 11/09/2013 12:48

YABU. You are going for an interview not a coffee morning.

samuraispider · 11/09/2013 12:48

YANBU

It is common courtesy. I am a PA and would not dream of not offering a visitor/interviewee a drink. I am old school though...

What jobs are you going for? Maybe they are subliminally telling you the company doesn't give free staff drinks/they are so under the kosh they don't have time to drink!

CMOTDibbler · 11/09/2013 12:48

yabu. Not common practice to offer a drink during interview

PeterParkerSays · 11/09/2013 12:48

We tend to have a bottle of water and a cup on the table but that's all. There would be coffee available if it was an all day interview with presentation etc, but only at set times, not just there to help yourself.

Kezztrel · 11/09/2013 12:49

I think most interviewing panels would assume you'd get yourself a drink before or after the interview.

SirChenjin · 11/09/2013 12:49

YANBU - it's common courtesy to provide a glass of water surely, given that interview nerves can make your cheeks stick to your teeth! I always make sure I provide water when I'm interviewing.

squoosh · 11/09/2013 12:50

YANBU

There should always be glasses and a jug of water on the table. Surprised that other people's experience says otherwise.

Smoorikins · 11/09/2013 12:51

I've only once in my life been offered a drink at a job interview. And I've been at interviews where the panel have had jugs of water and glasses - but nothing for the interviewee

I think YABU.

DidoTheDodo · 11/09/2013 12:51

We offer a glass of water, but really, is it worth making a fuss about it?

EsTutMirLeid · 11/09/2013 12:52

I would expect a jug of water and glasses on the table. But not to be offered coffee? It's a job interview!

Take your own bottle of water if you feel you need some in interview situations and you suspect none will be provided.

redskyatnight · 11/09/2013 12:52

I also agree that I'd expect a glass of water during an interview (you do so much talking it's handy to have something to sip).

Interviews I've had recently I've tended to be pointed to the water fountain/cafe/drinks machine while I've been waiting, so I've got myself a drink and taken it in to the interview room. I'm fairly sure they all had a bottle of water and cups in the rooms anyway though.

Thurlow · 11/09/2013 12:54

YANBU. I've always been offered, or offered, at least a glass of water. You're hopefully talking for 45 minutes, the least you'll need is a bit of water!

Flossie82 · 11/09/2013 12:57

YANBU, I would find that strange. I have been offered a drink at every interview I have ever been to!

DreadLock · 11/09/2013 12:59

It is not always the done thing, but if they do then it tells me they are a company worth working for!

Saffyz · 11/09/2013 13:00

I don't remember ever being offered a drink at an interview. Most interviews don't last ages, so I'd get a drink before or after.

moondog · 11/09/2013 13:02

Eh?
I'd refuse even if offered.
I wouldn't feel professional sipping from a cup of tea.
If you take your own, then FGS don't swig from a bottle.

flowery · 11/09/2013 13:02

YABU to expect coffee.

YANBU at all to expect water to be available. I'm surprised so many think not offering water to someone expected to be talking almost continously for maybe an hour is acceptable tbh.

scrummummy · 11/09/2013 13:03

I'm confused as to whether I am. it seems to be a more recent thing. in the past year I'm always pleasantly grateful when I have been offered a coffee but water was usually a given. I contract so change jobs maybe as often as every 3 months but maybe longer. when I last interviewed in Jan I was offered at least water. considering most interviews last about 1.5 hours and you spend your time talking over your CV. water would be great.

What's unprofessional about having a cup of tea moondog?

WipsGlitter · 11/09/2013 13:04

YANBU. But as someone who does interviews we do a lot of discussion about 'did they have a drink' so we know whether or not to change the glass. It's such a faff.

treas · 11/09/2013 13:05

I was always taught not to accept a drink offered at an interview - highly unprofessional don't you know Wink
