to think the phrase 'getting hit on' is ok to use?

I told a friend about an incident that happened yesterday where I got 'hit on' by a much younger guy. He said I should avoid using that phrase as it made me sound much older than I am.

I was Confused

Is it me? Have I got to that age (42) where I am blissfully ignorant of protocol regarding such phrases? Should I be cringing with embarrassment at my old fashioned-ness?

If so, please tell me if there are any more I should avoid.

Err no, I use it and I'm in my 20s...

No, it's fine.

It was often used in Friends and works perfectly with the 35-50 age group.

:)

I think Friends must be where I got it from. I can see Rachel saying it.

What else would you say?

Dawnywoo · 08/09/2013 18:11

I don't know, I was wondering that too.

'Someone flirted with me' or

'I got asked out' (not necessarily the same thing)

or, 'I got chatted up' (to me and even more old fashioned phrase)

Oh, I thought you were going to say someone said it was inappropriate because it implies violence or some such bollocks!

duchessandscruffy · 08/09/2013 18:32

It's fine by the way! Although, I personally prefer to say, 'I was wooed'!

Lj8893 · 08/09/2013 18:34

I say it and I'm 25!

Fairylea · 08/09/2013 18:38

I thought the same duchess :)

I think it's fine. I'd probably say someone was chatting me up. That probably makes me sound ancient.

do you mean a young gentleman came a'courting?
