To want a refund for music lessons

Dd has just started Year 2. At the end of last term, there was a letter sent out about children starting recorder lessons. Dd was keen so I paid (in July) for a term's lessons starting in September.

Last week, there was an email from the school to say the current recorder teacher is not returning to the school and so far they haven't found a replacement. So they don't know when lessons will start.

AIBU to ask for my money back until they find a replacement teacher? I strongly suspect that the school will refuse.

Yanbu. What makes you think the school will refuse? What reason could they give?

Do you intend of your DD having the lessons when they do find a new teacher? It could be a week, it could be longer. What would the point be of getting a refund just to repay it in a few weeks? Would be a lot of pointless admin work for someone in the school office.

I once had an issue with them refunding half a term's fees as I had served my half term's notice to stop lessons. They said they 'don't do refunds'.

You've paid for a service which is not being provided. Legally they have to give you the money back. If they suddenly find a teacher, good, but they still owe you pro rata for lessons missed.

I'd go in to the school and ask how long do they think it'll be before a replacement is found? Also if there's no lessons in September when they're meant to start I'd be asking for some money back as I'd have paid from September. At least a part refund for the month of September anyway.

Yes I suppose so opeaches but I don't like the idea of paying for something in advance that isn't certain.
