To cry because my new dress is ruined...trivial

I used to always put the effort in to look nice, it always made me feel bright and happy. Then when I was pg I put on a lot of weight later in pregnancy (suffered hyperemesis first few months that was managed with medication). I then suffered horrendous pnd (still feel it now sometimes).
However, the past few months have been a real turning point for me, my pnd is manageable, I've lost a load of weight and am starting to feel more like me. As a treat (we're not exactly loaded) I bought a few new items of clothing (none of my old ones really fit). One of which I loved. It's a dress that's smart for work but can also be dressed up to wear out. Which I did. huge mistake. DH, DM,DS (2) and I went out for dinner. DS wanted lasagna. I laid a napkin out on my lap to catch any flying food as I was sitting next to him. Right on cue a lump landed in my lap. It however soaked through the napkin into my dress. I changed the napkin straight away and tried to remove the stain have washed it but it's stained. Sad
I feel gutted. I get something new (rare) that doesn't make me feel like a fat lump (rarer), and after two wears its ruined. I know its extremely shallow but I just feel so sad.

By the time you have bought all these stain removers to try it would be cheaper just buying another dress for £19.50!

hollyisalovelyname · 08/09/2013 10:14

I have a dress I love. It now actually has tiny holes in it ( perhaps moths?) I still wear it Grin. I make sure I wear dark underwear ( dark dress) so the holes aren't noticed. Mad I know!!
So I know how you feel.

gallifrey · 09/09/2013 10:24

I splashed bleach on a lovely new dress that I had only worn twice Sad

I am still going to wear it though!

Desolvit Stain Remover Spray

Absolutely brilliant and removed a grease stain I had given up on.

mirry2 · 09/09/2013 10:56

Vanish is my friend

I ahem bled on a white sheet recently, now, I know this is blood and not tomato, but both red... anyway, I rubbed in some hair shampoo into the affected area with the hard part of a sponge, then put the sheet on at 60.

Spotless.

I really hope something works for you, its gutting when something you love gets ruined Thanks

Amy106 · 09/09/2013 18:42

I don't think you are shallow. You have been through so much and then to have the dress stained, well it really is awful. I hope it all works out for you. You are not being unreasonable at all.

fascicle · 09/09/2013 19:30

Don't give up, you'll get it out. I use Astonish OxyPlus (about £2 for a 1k tub) and apply to stain with a little water, then leave for a few hours. It always seems to work.

ihearsounds · 09/09/2013 19:36

Fairy do a laundry bar. Wet the patch, rub some of the bar on and rub till it lathers.. That bar is that powerful it does get a mechanics clothes as good as new.

But by the time you have bought all the other things mentioned on this thread, tried them, used loads of energy and water, cheaper and easier just to buy the dress again.

foslady · 09/09/2013 19:56

Congrats on the weight loss as well - and on getting yourself on the better side of PND!

RubyGoat · 09/09/2013 20:29

Yay! Grin

bishboschone · 09/09/2013 20:37

If it's a grease stain , fairy liquid works because it's an emulsifier and breaks down grease .

bishboschone · 09/09/2013 20:39

Ps .. The dress is lovely, get a spare if it fits you so well . It's a good price Grin

MrsMangoBiscuit · 10/09/2013 07:56

Excellent news. Thank you for updating. :)

Skinheadmermaid · 10/09/2013 08:41

YANBU. My sister stole my favourite denim shirt off the washing line. Now i'm size 10 and she is size 18, she squeezed herself into it and split all the seems and covered it in fake tan! I can't afford to replace it, it was £20 which is a lot of money to me and the perfect shirt i'd been looking for.
I am gutted and furious!
Try white vinegar to get the stain out.

lollylaughs · 10/09/2013 08:48

Just a tip for future stains... if you happen to stumble across a bar of green soap called Sunlight, buy it! Its not the bath soap of Sunlight but a darker green square bar and it is for clothes.

Its magic I tell you. I have yet to have a stain which this little gem couldn't solve.

bishboschone · 10/09/2013 09:50

Skin head .. Try and find the same one on eBay maybe?

veryconfusedatthemoment · 10/09/2013 09:58

Glad for the update - but it is a gorgeous dress - I bet you look stunning in it. Could DH buy you a spare (now) but for Christmas! You are going to want to wear and wear that dress :)

PS thanks to other PPs for all the stain tips!
