Hi,
My daughter has complained about feeling dizzy and very recently started saying that she can't read books. Before this all started my daughter had great vision and was an avid reader. After an eye test, the optomitrist said her eyes were normal and i was advised to forget about it. The optomitrist also said that the lenses she used with my daughter cancelled each other out and had no effect. But this puzzled me, as my daughter could read the words with these lenses on clearly. I'm not sure how long i should wait to get a second opinion as my daughter has been left without being able to read her books and school has started again.

I'd take her somewhere else for a second opinion, definitely. If you're not happy and explain what happened to the new opticians they will be able to test her again on the NHS. Lenses cancelling each other out? Confused

I'd also book a GP appointment after the second eye test.

Sounds to me like the optometrist has used equal but opposite lenses during the eye test. These do cancel each other out and are a simple way to check for malingering. If your daughter could see better with lenses (which were effectively zero powered) then she is having you on I'm afraid.

This happens all the time, usually when a friend of the child has just gotten glasses. Most optoms will have experienced similar situations literally hundreds of times.

Dizziness is not a symptom of eye strain. The eyes do not causes dizziness, the ears do.

You could seek a second opinion if you are concerned but if your daughter is misleading you then it is likely that the results will be the same.

The person whose job it is to test eyesight has done so and told you the results.
Why would you think that you know better? Are you an opthamologist?

Also, why is this in aibu?
