I'm sat in work and fancied a bar of chocolate so bought a Cadbury wispa. Have just seen the best before is July. Will it make me sick if I eat it?

No. It might have gone a bit white. It's a best before not use by.

WowOoo · 06/09/2013 13:50

Eat it. That's not even 2 months.

I ate a melted and reformed one I found in the car. It was an interesting shape.

Faerieinatoadstool · 06/09/2013 13:53

So long as there is no mould it's fine! Just might not be at its best n it would be a terrible shame to waste choc

quesadilla · 06/09/2013 13:54

no way. The sugar in it will basically preserve it for months to come. I've eaten chocolate that's years old and lived to tell the tale.

hufflebottom · 06/09/2013 13:55

eat it, don't waste the chocolate.

buttercrumble · 06/09/2013 13:57

I wouldn't care , hope you tucked in and enjoyed Smile

MerryMarigold · 06/09/2013 13:58

I ate a whole box of maltesers last night which were best before march of this year. They were a bit chewy rather than crunchy, but did the pre-menstrual job that was required.

Babybunny88 · 06/09/2013 14:01

I ate it and it was lovely Grin

I can't say I've ever checked the sell by / best before date on a bar of chocolate!

larry5 · 06/09/2013 14:12

I don't think I have ever had chocolate around long enough to reach its best before date!

RegTheMonkey · 06/09/2013 16:24

How strange, there's an identical post from a different OP just further up.

PseudoBadger · 06/09/2013 16:29

Expiry. Expiry. Expiry.

KissMeHardy · 06/09/2013 16:30

No, you'll die a horrible chocolatey death on the floor.

Buzzardbird · 06/09/2013 16:38

'Best Before' only means it is at it's optimum best 'before' that date, it doesn't mean you can't eat it...although the shop shouldn't really be selling them if they have done their rotation correctly.
The only date you have to take note of it 'Expiry' dates.
Also, throwing away chocolate is probably against some law or other?

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 06/09/2013 16:45

Why would it make you sick?

I don't understand the obsession with dates stamped on food, as if the food knows what that date is. People think its dangerous to go past this mythical random date, with having any idea why....its weird.

giraffescantdanceallnight · 06/09/2013 16:49

Yes you might die.

Give it to me.

HorryIsUpduffed · 06/09/2013 16:59

Cadbury is so full of sugar that its expiry date is irrelevant. You will be completely safe.

Cadbury put around 12-15m on their products (from manufacture). Proper chocolate is more like 6-12 weeks because the milk/cream content is higher and the chocolate lower.

Are you happy eating a chocolate bar that's probably 18-24m old?

JessieMcJessie · 06/09/2013 17:00

expiry date. expiration is American. Wispas are very very British. No it won't poison you, it may just taste a bit nasty.

HorryIsUpduffed · 06/09/2013 17:00

... and the sugar content lower.

mawbroon · 06/09/2013 17:08

The Cadbury's outlet shop sells chocolate past it's date. Like someone said earlier, it's a best before date, so totally legal to sell it, the choc might be a bit white looking, but will not do any harm.

Buzzardbird · 13/09/2013 13:48

Oh but Cadbury's is now owned by Kraft :(
