WIBU to not let the tv licensing inspectors in?

DH and I have never had a tv, and we periodically get the letters threatening to come around, fine us, throw us into a dungeon etc. No one ever actually has come to the house.

Today when we got back from work there was a note through the door saying they'd been to look around and as we were out, they'd come back.

I have already let them know we don't have a tv. I don't really like the idea of some total stranger wandering through my house, especially going into bedrooms, which I guess they must do as lots of people have tvs there. Also, I'm not the sort of person who's scared of "strange men" but it seems to me it would be so easy for someone to create a fake id and then try to gain entry to,the house. I wouldn't really fancy letting someone in for these reasons.

They may not come back, but if they do, WIBU to refuse entry? Is this illegal? Or would you let them in?

Never let a TV licence salesperson into your home unless they have a warrant, which they won't have for 99.9% of the houses they visit. Do not engage with them. Just politely tell them that you do not require their services and shut the door. Do not sign anything. You can register online as not requiring a licence, but you don't have to. You are under no obligation to lift a finger for them.

They also do not have the ability to detect TV receiving equipment from outside your house.

You are not legally obliged to let them into your home unless they have a magistrate's warrant.

youtube.com/c/ChilliJonCarne Check out this YouTube channel - he’s fab tells you everything you need to know about tv licensing, you don’t have to let them in, don’t even have to talk to them, just shut the door. They have no power to enter your home and the TV license detector vans are a myth - they can’t detect anything.

Hey, there is a process for this.

  1. Declare NLN (no licence needed) - which it sounds like you already have.
  1. Contact then and express WOIRA (withdrawal of the implied right of access). They then cannot lock on your door or visit. They can write but that's all.

Hope that's helpful.

There's a whole youtube channel devoted to this subject, that my husband is obsessed with.

You do not have to let them in, but they will threaten you with all sorts of things and will probably keep coming back until you do. If you want peace just let them in to see you don't have a TV. My brother did it about 5 years ago & hasn't heard from them since.
A lot of people record them when they come to the door
