To let my 7yo ds use a bit of deodorant?

Ds is a very sweaty child! It's never really bothered him until recently, when a boy commented at his summer sports camp that he was "stinky". Now he showers and baths regularly, but after a day running around, he does smell and I don't want him getting picked on for it.

When we were in Asda last night, he slipped one of those travel sized Lynx sprays into the trolley and when I asked where it had come from, he looked all embarrassed and said he just wanted to smell nice. I've let him buy it and use a little squirt today. I know deodorant body sprays won't stop him sweating, but I feel an antiperspirant would be too harsh on his skin and if it makes him feel better, is there any harm?

My little brother (9) has always had a squirt of lynx before he puts his uniform on! I'd let my DS once he gets to that age!

wish my boys were so keen on deodorising their feet and stinky trainers phew...gasp..faint....

Lynx is vile and isn't effective. Simple stick deodorant is good to start off with ime.

The important point is to teach him the difference between cans labelled "deodorant" (they are just some smell in a can) and those labelled "antiperspirant" (the stuff that actually stops you sweating).

Get him something that works.
Lynx masks the smell
All the hippy dippy stuff (and I speak as a grade A hippy dippy) either don't work or do work because they've got as many "chemicals" in as Mitchum 48 hour spray, they just cost loads more because they've got a picture of a field on them. All the words people use like "gentle" are just marketing stuff.

There is no need to be concerned at a child of any age smelling after doing vigorous exercise while wrapped in synthetic fibres. Being very smelly under other circumstances might need investigating.

Salt of the Earth crystal deo (from Holland & Barrett) has just one ingredient according to mine - postassium alum. There's a difference between alum and aluminium I believe - I let my 10yr old use mine (they last ages.)

Have just bought my almost 8 year old ds a sanex roll on, he's occasionally whiffy in the pit area but he's now started a before school sports club so I don't want him teased for being whiffy if he's starting the school day sweaty!
