school have decied those who bring packed lunch should pay £1 per day to sit and eat it in the canteen...(run by a private contractor)

if they provide juice/fruit for my child yes i would pay.

but not for just the space?

Bonsoir: You paid ?10 per day for your child to take a packed lunch to school?

This sounds loony.

You summed up my view in your last post OP

If you go outside of the UK system you take your chances I suppose

Bonsoir · 05/09/2013 11:25

No, I don't pay it. It is what the school charges if you choose to use the service.

As a parent who currently pays £5 a day for my child to eat his packed lunch at school YANBU!
I have to pay the same as the parents who's children have their dinners cooked by school as they class it as paying for the supervision not the dinners. Apparently the other children get their lunches for free. My son can't have the school dinner due to allergies. So we pay the same as other parents yet have the cost of his lunch on top. It isn't fair in my opinion. I think we should get a small discount of £1.80 - cost of a school dinner.
£1 day to eat a packed lunch is ridiculous!

what is the alternative bonsoir? can your kids go home?

here - all kids have to stay in school the whole day. no one goes home . it isnt done thing. all have supervised lunch time including in canteen. up to now, pack lunches have not paid anyhing. sudenly we asked to pay a acharge. it wasnt listed on the charges with registration forms sent in june.

so the choice of "well go elsewhere" is not realistic is it?
(with all state schools oversubscribed etc etc - one dc has had to leave the school for a number of reasons including long term illness and currently is without any school at all as there are no places anywhere else in state schools!! but that is another story..)

when signed up in july of this year, all charges were set out - xx for matriculation, xx for lunches if you use canteen; buy your books from xx at xx price, etc xx to join parents assoc etcetc.

there was no charge for eating a pack lunch. no indication there would be.

but now there is....

so i guess my gripe has to be more about school management doing this unilaterally and suddenly without consultation. if they ask and we all accept paying for a service [ and it seems that ultimately we wont have much choice...] then fine... but maybe parents could be asked how much would be reasonable etc etc and also exactly where the money will go...

Yes, children can have lunch at home (or outside the school - we often picnic in the park). In fact, the school doesn't have nearly enough room for all DC to eat at the canteen, but the outrageous prices don't seem to be great enough to dissuade many parents.

When there are three or four DC in the family, it is much easier and cheaper to have a nanny or au pair do their lunch at home.

I know which school. I am not paying the fees.very easy for me if they refuse to let my kid into the canteen I will report them.

valkiriauk · 06/09/2013 17:34

Hi.
AMPA WON'T HELP YOU AND I AM PART OF AMPA. MY KIDS WILL LEAVE THE SCHOOL NEXT YEAR SO IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO ME OR THREATEN ME.

Yawning now. £1 per day for clearing up and supervision for a non UK state run school. If the school were independent OP you'd be absorbing more than £60 per term in a fee hike. I doubt you sent your child there because you thought an inferior education would be provided. I think you need to get on with it or pay for a school lunch.

Time for a bored emoticon?
