So ds started his secondary school yesterday. When we had induction day in July, the teacher mentioned that they had just bought in new Logo school trousers & skirts.
Now the entire school has to change uniform as policy before was plain black trousers/ skirt. Fine. Except that the school uniform shop now has a huge backlog of uniform, and over half the school has not received the uniform. So imagine masses of parents in 1 tiny uniform shop, owner on the phone to school- apparently will allow plain black trousers/ skirt.
Except yesterday, it wasn't fine. The Head sent home over 75 pupils, local newspaper at the school, pupils bought back by parents were put into isolation. As far as I am aware, they did not send home yr7's. They did however get a massive bollocking. DS very upset.
Dp went into school this morning to get a grip on what was happening. As he was waiting, pupils were swarming past him, having been pulled out of lessons to go to conference room to explain why they dont have school logo skirt/ trousers. Ds included. Head was in conference room shouting at them & they were coming out and being taking off into different rooms(?) Dp has arranged meeting with head at 11.30am today.

When I started secondary there was no need for badges and logos on jumpers to show which school you were from, that was what the school tie was for, a nice cheap solution that everyone could afford and they could be passed on indefinitely. In fact my mum handknitted my jumper to save money and there was no objection as long as it was the correct colour.

I've started a thread to gauge interest in a campaign.

Nice one, lagoon - have supported you on that one.

StuntGirl · 07/09/2013 17:01

On a separate but slightly linked note my DD was very small - every skirt she had had to be significantly taken up,to end up well below the knee. The school uniform shop provided an adjustment service, but wouldn't take up DD's skirts - I had to have a letter from the deputy head to say it was ok! Madness.

I was a very petite child, I had to wear a pinafore instead of skirt and blouse 'til I was about 7 as even skirts for 4 years old's didn't fit. I don't know if my mum had to fight to make that happen, but it didn't affect my learning. I was always top of the class despite my non regulation uniform Grin

Thankyou, lagoonhaze.
I have submitted a petition to the Goverment. They are checking the details of it, before they will allow it. Takes up to 7 days. When/ if this is confirmed and up on their webpage, I will post a link.
If we manage to get 100,000 signature's, it will be considered for debate in house of commons.
I know it's hell of alot of signature's, I know we can do this though. Like I said, will post link as soon as I get the go ahead.

I reckon we can do it :-)

RedHorse3 · 07/09/2013 20:44

So lagoonhaze, how does this campaign work? I did look it up on google, just hadn't had time to sit down and read it all properly.

I was hoping MNHQ would take it up but it we will need to see if they have time and resources.

If not I think lobbying your petition on facebook and social media sites will help.

As on a micro level parents, grandparents and the wider community need to write to the governors of local schools to say what they feel is acceptable and neccessaty re school uniform.

Darkesteyes · 07/09/2013 21:03

i support this campaign fully. I have no DC but i did experience this draconian crap as a high school student.

RedHorse3 · 07/09/2013 21:48

Thankyou. Will spread it online when it comes through.

I think your on to something there.. (micro level advice) Maybe everyone on here, who has a problem with their dc's school should write to the Governors. And ask their parents/ inlaws/ siblings to do the same. Then tell their friends about this and see if they wanted to due to any probs they have. And so on, so on.

Just imagine how many complaints would be logged up and down the country. All for the time of 1 simple email/ letter. The waves would be huge.

I would be interested in a petition. My dd's school make all children wear ties from reception. Little 4 year olds in ties. Its crazy! What does it teach them? FA! It is uncomfortable for them and serves no purpose. The HT just wants to show off. Madness. Makes me really cross!

StanleyLambchop · 07/09/2013 22:16

Maybe everyone on here, who has a problem with their dc's school should write to the Governors.

Our governors are all too scared of HT!

RedHorse3 · 07/09/2013 22:25

Stanley... Maybe all the more reason?

thebody usually you and I are in agreement but I'm going to disagree with your post earlier this evening. Leslie Elliott is not a well educated fool; he is a well qualified fool. If he were well educated. He would have had more sense.

This is where education has gone wrong in the last 30 years. It now turns out ill educated people who happen to be well qualified. If Leslie Elliott were well qualified he would have had the capacity for common sense and empathy.

northernlurker · 07/09/2013 22:28

This thread is why I'm so proud my dd3's primary has no uniform.

OP - YANBU. This is a shocking waste of everybody's time and money.

Will go over to the campaign thread......
