I just don't know how to get rid of them, have tried sachets of scented stuff which is supposed to deter them, cant face moth balls because of the smell and I have heard they don't really work anyway. don't want to pay a fortune to rentokill. help please?!

i've heard cedar balls are good. not smelly. don't know if they work though.

How about lavendar aromatherapy oil with the sticks, very strong smells nicer than moth balls and I think it really does work.

Have you taken absolutely everything out & checked it?
I just had to do this with my whole airing cupboard.

I washed everything Sad

I did it outside, unfolded everything and found the buggers as caterpillars wriggling about in my folded towels.

Ebay do a sticky moth (£3) that attracts the male to prevent the cycle.
Homebase do moth paper & other stuff.

sticky moth trap*

What type of wardrobe do you have? Do you have carpet in you're wardrobe as they will live in it- skirting, they'll live in that too. Try emptying, hoovering and steam cleaning the inside of your wardrobe to kill them off, hot wash or dry clean any clothes that you can and vacuum pack any expensive bits (they love wool and silk).

Also, as daisy said, lavender oil should help.

Sticky moth traps. I hate them.

Sleepyhoglet · 03/09/2013 21:34

I hate moths, not sticky moth traps. My previous post was confused.

SigmundFraude · 03/09/2013 21:36

I thought that moths eating your clothes was a myth!

Callmedreckly · 03/09/2013 21:41

I wish it was!

I've used this stuff:

www.amazon.co.uk/ZEROIN-ZER434-Clothes-Killer-Aerosol/dp/B003Y3TET8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

It's not been long enough to see if they are completely gone (I bet there's the odd one at the back of a drawer somewhere) but I haven't seen a live moth since I sprayed it a couple of weeks ago and I used to get one winging its way out of the wardrobe pretty much every time I opened it.

Be warned, it's a nasty, strong spray. Preferably cover your mouth and nose and then once you've finished leave the room and close the door. There is no lingering unpleasant smell etc after you've left it for a while.

Bizarrely enough, conkers work! I read it somewhere years ago and I always leave loads of them in with my woolies and they have remained un-nibbled even though I lived at my Mum's house for 2 years and she had terrible infestations of them. It's free anyway!

Callmedreckly · 03/09/2013 21:59

Perhaps the cedar wood balls are from conker trees!

If they are flying out, get the sticky trap for the male, so they stop breeding.

God, I hate them.

I have killed 4 'baby moths' today. Have never seen that many in the house before. Must be the right season for them or something.
