just been quoted £120 for 2 smallish roller blinds in white. They are blackout but still...AIBU in thinking this is a rip off or do you think this is a decent price? I have NO idea really but I was a bit shocked

Are they fitting them?

AmandaHoldenmigroin · 02/09/2013 15:43

Sounds about what I paid for one.

Ifcatshadthumbs · 02/09/2013 15:44

If they are being made to measure and fitted for you then that sounds about right. I would never pay that though and always buy off the shelf and cut to fit.

I remember getting quotes for roman blinds for our bay windows once, would have cost more than it did to have the new double glazing put in!

LJL69 · 02/09/2013 15:45

Yes to them fitting them. Oh God...I am obviously becoming a tight arse. Or one of these types that thinks everything should be the same price as it was in the 70s. Thanks ladies...I will suck it up x

Get thee to B&Q, I bought 2 lovely blackout roller blinds there the other week for less than £40, I can't remember the exact price but ones for the master bedroom and ones for the box room so yours will be even cheaper. Not difficult to fit either.

craftynclothy · 02/09/2013 15:46

Was it Hillarys?

I ordered online. I think the site was roller blinds direct to fit them it's just a case of drilling 4 small holes and screwing some small fittings on, the blind then clicks in place.

NoComet · 02/09/2013 15:47

£7.97

LJL69 · 02/09/2013 15:47

Thanks boots. I am just such a ham fisted bugger that I am always scared to modify anything. My DH is worse than me. I will get on the phone to my dad!

It was a local place as I like to, when I can, use local business however not if is considerably cheaper elsewhere. I should have asked on here before I called them

If they are blackout, and price includes fitting,I don't think that's bad at all.

dopeysheep · 02/09/2013 15:50

I know what ypu mean about things being expensive though. Got a quote to line our bedroom walls with lining paper and paint them, plus ceiling, came to nearly £450!!! I thought it would be £200 tops but there you go.

nancerama · 02/09/2013 15:51

Blinds are indeed expensive, but they are really easy to cut to size and install (handy videos on John Lewis website make it simple).

Measure at least twice, cut once, you'll be fine.

I worked out that if I ballsed it up and binned it and then tried again, it still would have been cheaper than buying made to measure.

NoComet · 02/09/2013 15:51

DD has three small windows and she has off the shelf blinds that fit perfectly that were about £5 each in a homebase sail bin.

I've no objection to £100 bills for curtains made of nice material, DD1's Laura Ashley ones were real money, but plain roller blinds, they are having a laugh.

recall · 02/09/2013 15:51

I think its an expensive road of doing it, I agree withsrarballbunny

LJL69 · 02/09/2013 15:51

craftnclothy - thats a great site..much more choice than I was offered today (which is why I got the quote in white) Cheers

Dopeysheep - that would have called for a defibulator (sp) for me if had been quoted that price. CLEAR!

I've got an expensive roman blind in the kitchen, I wish I hadn't bothered, it's got dust and grease on it and I can't wash it only dab at it with a damp cloth. I wish I'd got a roller blind, cheap enough to replace when tatty.

tobiasfunke · 02/09/2013 16:47

I got a made to measure roller blind from here. It was very good- and cheap. www.terrysfabrics.co.uk

hermioneweasley · 02/09/2013 17:06

Ikea have black out roller blinds which are very cheap. Got a massive one for about £20. Obviously doesn't include fitting, but for the price difference you could get them fitted and still have change.

Beastofburden · 02/09/2013 17:08

rip off. be cheaper to bribe your DD to STFU when she wakes up early of a morning Grin

Groovee · 02/09/2013 17:08

Dunelm Mill do fab blackout blinds from about £11.

littlemisswise · 02/09/2013 17:12

We've got white blackout blinds from Ikea in our room. Cheap as chips they were.

Thank you so much everyone. I will look at all the links. My DH is delighted by this thread as will save him much cash. He is tighter than me!

Look at blinds2go - I got three lined roman blinds with a huge drop for about £200. Arrived in less than a week and are a perfect fit. I'm chuffed to bits with them.
