To worry about DDs obsession with the cat litter :)

I bought my cats a new litter tray (the one with the covered top and swing door they need to push to get in) and they were really weird about using it for a few days and had a few accidents outside it. I was checking it to see if they were using it (which they are now, just took some getting use to) and now DD (nearly 4) has become obsessed. The first thing she does when she gets up is tries to open it to check if they have 'done any number twos' and she does this periodically through the day. If they haven't she has taken to trying to carry them and put them in Grin. I have tried to explain that its yucky and not for her to touch and that the cats are ok with their toilet now but she won't have it. She's become a cat poo inspector!!

I'm hoping when she goes back to nursery in a few weeks she may forget about it and am putting it down to too much time on her hands in the school holidays Grin.

Totally normal behaviour.

I wouldn't worry at all if my DD (also 4) started to do this.

You are right, she will forget all about it soon! :)

I'm hoping so. The hygiene issue is a bit of a nightmare. I'm watching her like a hawk so I can get her to wash her hands after she's been poking around in there!

I didn't realize she was really touching it?

Sorry if I didn't read it properly.

I think if she is really going for it, then you will just have to be really firm and tell her "NO" Grin

Talking about it is one thing, I wouldn't be relaxed if my DD started examining it!

:)

Kelly - my daughter aged about 10 months once ate cat shit out of a cat litter tray, covered in bits of litter gravel.

I was hysterical, convinced she was seconds from death. She was fine.

My goodness Nancy Shock

I think I would have fainted! Grin

what did the Doctor say?

Nancy66 · 02/09/2013 15:44

Was told to watch her for signs of vomiting, being in pain, fever, floppiness etc.

I watched her like a hawk for 48 hours and no reaction whatsoever.

KellyElly · 02/09/2013 15:48

OMG Nancy! At least she's just inspecting, no signs of eating so far!!

Feminine she's not actually picking up the poo but is opening the swing door which the cats wee against and push with their paws to get in and out after they've had a shit. Not as bad as handling poo but still a bit gross :)

children seem obsessed with poo at 4 dd2 used to go outside and watch jaycat poop and then come in tell me then jaycat used to turn her back on her she needed to poo in peace Grin as long as your dd isn't touching it then let her b do tell her that cats can poop on their own and she doesn't need to take them to the tray, poor cats

bootsycollins · 02/09/2013 16:23

Grin that's made me giggle about her getting out of bed and the first thing she does is poo patrol. She sounds like a very responsible crazy cat lady in the making pet owner Grin

Pawprint · 02/09/2013 16:57

Bless her! I hate the stuff but love my cats, so have to put up with it.

I have a massive OCD thing about it and can't leave poo in the tray if it's there or I get really panicky. I have to say that the thought of my child going near it freaks me out but that is ONLY because I have OCD and am silly about it!

When my sister and I were little we used to be obsessed with those red dog poo bins you get in parks - we would run up to them and open the lids. We would be hit by the horrible smell which would cause us to run away screaming in a fit of giggles at the 'stinky poo.' Our parents were horrified but I think most children go through a poo phase - I can assure you neither of us are obsessed by poo now we are adults!!
