to think that bbc this morning was biased towards pedigree dogs and not balanced

this morning on bbc1 news there was a slot about puppy farms, there was a lady who had bought a farmed puppy by the sounds of it who had died within days of getting the pup, she has now bought another pedigree pup, and the other lady was from the kennel club who just said get a pup from an accredited by them (the kennel club) breeder, am i unreasonable to think that there should have been a representative of one of the rescues like many tears who deal with the horrible results of puppy farms every day of the year to explain the reality of what puppy farms do , and that stronger measures should be taken to shut these horrible places down

I think that people are at a loss as to where to buy a dog from, but with good reason.

On here you will see that private sellers are often criticised, but i know people who have made the decision to allow one litter of their pedigree and in demand breed of dog. I am considering one litter from my own GS, i want a pup and so do two relatives, so there will only be one for sale, possibly.

I agree that the KC shouldn't be the only people to contribute to a programme such as that, they don't do that much for dog welfare, tbh.

There isn't enough done to anyone who harms or contributes to the harming of animals and we need to re-think a lot of our laws.

If you want a pedigree puppy where would you go? If a breeder is not accredited and they are a family wanting just one litter then you can see that when you go to look at the puppies.

I'd have thought that the representative from the KC was encouraging people to buy from reputable breeders because if there isn't a demand for dogs from puppy farms, people won't be able to make money out of them.

Presumably the lady whose dog had died was there to say what happens with many puppy farm dogs.

Rescue centres do a wonderful job, but buying puppies from them doesn't do anything to help solve the problem of puppy farms existing in the first place.

There is a thread on here about a KC registered breeder, who knowingly sold on a puppy with problems, but lied.

The registration has been removed, but she is still advertising as such and nothing is being done about it, there should be the available law which could prevent her from breeding a dog ever again.

I did not see the tv programme but I do have ex-puppy farm breeding dogs and also home-check for a rescue that deals with these poor dogs when they are thrown out of the puppy farms. Angry

The fact is that many people buy dogs through websites such as Preloved and have no idea about where the puppy has come from. They are not interested in seeing the parents (which are always absent in puppy farmed animals) and just want to get their mitts on the puppy asap. It is ill-informed people who keep the puppy farmers in business and those how buy from 'dog supermarkets' where the pups are flown in from Ireland or come from Wales from big puppy farms. If people used their common sense they would go to a registered breeder, see both parents, be vetted as potential dog owners themselves and pay the proper price for a puppy. Puppy farmers undercut proper breeders and in this case cheap does not equal better. I imagine that this is the point the the KC person was trying to put across.

Please do not do this! There are so many backstreet breeders like this who think that 'our dog is lovely so let's breed from her'. They do not do any of the health checks necessary before breeding (hip scoring etc) and do not realise the huge costs involved in raising a litter of puppies to the age where they are ready to go to new homes. And if your bitch has 8 puppies what then? And what if the ones you sell need to be re-homed - would you take them back (a good breeder would). And really, does the world need more dogs when so many thousands are destroyed every year?

Please stop and think and then get your bitch spayed
