To think that buying a pair of converse should not be a test of endurance.

Went to a large huge shopping centre today. Birthday money in my pocket and i need a pair of shoes. After walking around a bit i decide to just buy a new pair of converse, in blue. I have a red pair already but they are a bit knackered. So, off I go to John lewis - nup, they only have white - no problem, so i ask where the nearest shop is that will sell them. Am directed to OFFICE.

My Ears!!!!!! WTAF is it with these places - house (or shed or outside loo) music at deafening volume Hmm Staff were lovely an helpful and i know this is a "young persons" shop but FFS!! I almost didn't manage to hold out while i queued and paid for them. DP and DD gave up and had to leave the shop even though DD had said that she wanted a pair too (she is 8) so they missed out on a further £25 sale simply because we couldn't stand it anymore!

Of course office weren't the only ones, I feel sorry for the staff, even if you are 18 and a party animal i can only imagine that its like aural torture after 8 hours of it Confused Why do stores think its good marketing to deafen customers, does it scramble neural networks in some way and make you spend more money? Because all it did was make me want to leave

Sorry, but they don't want your old money Grin Plenty of young people happy to spend there.

Flibbedyjibbet · 31/08/2013 21:54

Next directory do Converse kids and adults.

LEMisdisappointed · 31/08/2013 21:54

But they had loads of converse shoes - everyone knows that converse are a school run staple of the middle aged mum!

cookielove · 31/08/2013 21:55

You could just go online any buy them there instead!

here

Binkyridesagain · 31/08/2013 21:56

I never go in Office, I just press my face against the window and drool.

lagertops · 31/08/2013 22:28

I went into Office to buy Converse once, and the reason I ended up not buying them is because they didn't have any in my size that day (size 7, black, so not a wildly obscure shoe type), and they said they could get them sent to my house, no delivery charge (!!!!) Hmm as they weren't available. So I made up some horseshit excuse about 'checking my account balance' and went to Schuh instead cos I'm an asshole. Smile

Have you been to hollister/ gilly hicks?! It's pitch black aside from a few spot lights, the shop floors are full of trees and there are smoke machines Hmm also ridiculously loud music. I am 22 and I felt old in there. I went in with my sister, and picked up a top I thought I liked the look of- left the shop and it was a totally different colour than it seemed in the black smoky shop..

Suppose it all works though.. As 3 weeks later I still remember the shop..

Also one of the female sales assistants was wearing a crop top and those little shorts that shows off too much bottom. And there was a topless male working on the door welcoming people Hmm(my sis said they have to be models to work there...& it's an honour to get a job there.....Confused)

SHarri13 · 31/08/2013 22:37

Oh god, hollister. Please let that ship have sailed by the time my brood are teens.

lagertops · 31/08/2013 23:16

Not to mention the nauseating smell of pat butcher's fur coat the place when you walk by. I

gaggiagirl · 31/08/2013 23:26

Bench and superdry stores in the metro centre play the loudest shite of noisy music I have ever heard.

I had to leave both shops cos my ears were bleeding and the throbbing base dislodged my mooncup the previous statement may be mildly untrue

RubberDuck · 31/08/2013 23:27

Amazon have them in stock with free delivery (may just have bought a pair myself Grin)

Bluestocking · 01/09/2013 08:03

LOLz at Pat Butcher's fur coat. I've never got close enough to a Hollister to catch a whiff and now I don't need to!

chocoluvva · 01/09/2013 08:13

YNBU.

Horrible loud music in shops has the effect of me deciding not to go in at all or go in for as short a time as possible.

Once when an assistant's asked if he could help I replied " Yes, could you turn the music down please?" Grin

Tee2072 · 01/09/2013 08:21

DV8. I walked in. Walked straight back out.

Can't hear myself think, never mind decide what to buy.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 01/09/2013 08:25

I love my converse. I bought them from Office and survived. Do I get a badge or something?

StanleyLambchop · 01/09/2013 08:28

I am so old I did not even know what Office is- I thought it would be a stationary shop!! I am not quite so old as to ask what Converse are though, but it was Rucanor in my day!

Mckayz · 01/09/2013 08:29

I get most of my shoes in Office and they never have loud music on. Must vary from store to store.

We went to Meadowhall on Thursday and there was a queue to go in Hollister, it looked like they were queuing for a rainforest experience.

FrigginRexManningDay · 01/09/2013 08:31

The music has subliminal messages and Hollister is designed to hypnotise. Makes teens think shit clothes are cool.

RedEyedandBlotchy · 01/09/2013 08:46

Office always seems quite staid compared to places like Schuh and Irregular Choice. I can't every remember there even being music on in any of the branches I've visited.
I think the proper boss was off and the junior in charge ramped up the volume.
I worked in a very beautiful, romantic restaurant where every now and again the manager would have to nip out for a bit
and the clientele were treated to half an hour of banging techno :)
