So I had my tragus pierced last week, and yes it's been obviously sore since having it done but I woke up this morning and it was very swollen and in pain.

I had some shopping to do so I thought I might as well go back to the piercing store. I went to the counter and said to the woman all friendly that I had my tragus done last week and it's getting quite swollen now and is there anything she could recommend to help it?

She looked at me and said - did you get it pierced here? (Confused don't know why I would be in there asking advice if I hadn't) when I said yes she said well that's normal.

Then asked the woman next to her, who looked over and said yes thats normal Hmm mine took at least two weeks to heal.

Then when she actually looked she said "oh ... yeah there is some build up actually."

I only went in there because I had a leaflet from them that said if I had any problems I could go back in.

Sorry my title is littered with mistakes Blush it should say -

to think all these assistants were really patronising?

so at did she do/say after she acknowledged the build up?

StephenFrySaidSo · 31/08/2013 15:25

so what not at Grin

youmeatsix · 31/08/2013 15:32

asking had you had it pierced there is perfectly normal, she wouldnt (quite rightly) want to touch it if someone else pierced it without knowing. People (not you, just "people") blame everyone for everything these days, she was covering herself, and many people ask in places they havent been pierced in, if they got it done on holiday and are back home again and experiencing problems, i cant see why you think you see this as patronising at all

perplexedpirate · 31/08/2013 15:37

Did you press post too early OP? If not, I'm a bit confused. Confused

Tee2072 · 31/08/2013 15:38

YABU

You asked. They clarified. You answered. They responded.

Where was the patronising part?

DropYourSword · 31/08/2013 15:39

I got my tragus pierced a good while ago. I remember the pain while healing. Mine did swell quite a bit. I was very addicted to wearing earphones at the times which wouldn't have helped.

Not really sure why the assistants are being accused of being patronizing if they were reassuring you that our was quite a normal part of the healing process. It was definitely not unreasonable for them to have checked you got it done there.

ManAliveThisThingsFantastic · 31/08/2013 15:45

This pain you're experiencing, do you feel it is more than should be expected?

How was it pierced? What with? What's the material of the jewellery? How are you taking care of it?

I would be more concerned that I didn't get much information about the pain rather than the assistants tone!

I know I could google, but what's a tragus?Confused

NadiaWadia · 31/08/2013 16:02

I was wondering too!

Tee2072 · 31/08/2013 16:02

The bit in front of the opening in your ear, Puppy.

FlutteringButterflie · 31/08/2013 16:03

It was more the tone and the fact that they obviously didn't want to check it and just looked at me and repeatedly said - yes that's normal Hmm as in I was stupid to not expect swelling.

I'm obviously not telling it right and I guess you needed to have been there, but I probably am being unreasonable.

I was using too much salt to clean it but at least I know where I'm going wrong now.

Another day, another interesting fact learned on MN.Smile

FlutteringButterflie · 31/08/2013 16:10

Probably more dismissive than patronising

Yes you're probably right. At least it wasn't all my head though and there is something wrong with - not that it's makes me a winner haha.

And it's a little better now thanks Smile . Home now and cleaned it properly and it's not quite as red anymore.

I wondered if you more 'how' they said it rather than 'what' they said. That's more difficult to get across when telling a story.

Just remember the new piercing golden rule. Apart from gentle cleaning with some mildly salty water ...LITHA!

FlutteringButterflie · 31/08/2013 16:17

I was using about a bloody tablespoon of salt with a bit of hot water! DropYourSword

Didn't realise you were suppose to only use a pinch - what an idiot haha.

Sleeping on it never helps either so if it's on the side you normally sleep you do have to be a little 'extra vigilant' with soaks and cleaning.

obviouslyneedsupernanny · 31/08/2013 18:34

I think you need to look up what patronizing means
