To think that a baggage handler, or whoever,

Shouldn't have nicked stuff from a pushchair that went AWOL anyway?

Came back from Denmark earlier this week. Pushchair didn't.

Only later, when unpacking, did we realise that my purse was still in the compartment thingy on the handles of the pushchair, as my partner didn't check before putting the pram on the conveyor belt. To be fair, situation was a tad stressful. Me in a wheelchair, pregnant, hand luggage on my lap, toddler being grumpy and wriggling on top of hand luggage etc. Everyone looking at us.

Anyway, pushchair got delivered between 23:30 and 02:30 last night. No promised updates and we rang around trying to find out what was going on and nobody knew. Pushchair was left on doorstep unwrapped, and someone has been through compartment thing and not only taken wallet but a sentimental, pretty valueless (made of leather with son's name on), bracelet from a separate little zipped bit within holder. Was broken, so put it in there with the bits, to be mended at some point. Why take that? Seems really spiteful.

And the purse was the PERFECT purse, bought only a couple of weeks ago, can't get a replacement, and now trying to jog rubbish brain to try to remember what on earth was in there.

At least nobody has spent my Nectar points! Grin

I know this is a 'woe is me' whinge, but really? A broken leather bracelet? Spiteful mean person. Grrrrr.

It may have fallen out in the hold? or when being thrown onto the plane?

Catsize · 31/08/2013 15:15

I thought that too Clara re:the purse, but the bracelet was very zipped in and the zip was unzipped on return, and the little pocket empty. Can't remember if anything else in there. I was more bothered about the bracelet than the pushchair!
Re:purse, if it just fell out, it is odd that the cress seeds that were in the same bit (don't ask!) didn't fall out too. Can't blame them for taking the purse total lie, of course I can, as it was very lovely!
Lack of bracelet and general rifling through the thing leads me to think the purse is in naughty hands now.

Could the stuff have been taken whilst the buggy was on your doorstep??

prissyenglisharriviste · 31/08/2013 15:27

Anything loose will have fallen out and potentially been extremely dangerous in a flight situation (no loose stuff hanging round aircraft or being towed across airfields on baggage trolleys for good reason.

I imagine the zip was undone and so the 'rubbish' (broken stuff) was removed and chucked in the garbage so as not to be a flight hazard. The cress seeds were probably wedged in the folds, whereas the purse was heavy enough to fall out as they chucked it about. Baggage handling isn't a very delicate job! (And not usually time to be spiteful - your treasure is someone else's garbage)

Buy a pushchair bag, and zip it inside, then put a lock on for next time. Flying with small kids and wheelchairs is always stressful. What a shame to end your holiday this way ;-(

paperclips, we live in a rural area and have a driveway, gate etc. It would have to be a cunning nickerer to take the things in the dark, spot secret(ish) zipped compartments etc. in the short timespan (23:30-02:30) and leave the pushchair (most valuable thing). Least likely option I reckon.

prissy, I take the point re:loose objects, but they weren't really that loose. Wallet would have had to be prised out, butbjusy is out. There is a small chance it could have fallen, but bracelet think means I think it has had a different fate. The zipped in bracelet couldn't have fallen. Would only have been visible with rummaging. Don't think either would have been a hazard. Saw one of those bags you mention a while ago and didn't buy one as thought I wouldn't be flying with pushchair etc. Hindsight...

Did you buy the purse in Denmark? Is that why you can't replace it?

KissMeHardy · 31/08/2013 16:27

I know an ex-baggage handler. The stories he can tell would make you never, ever take baggage on holiday again.

I never never never put anything even remotely valuable in my main baggage !

Catsize · 31/08/2013 16:28

Hi red. Bought it in Spain. It is made by a company in Switzerland. I have written to them, as it does not appear on their website. Perhaps an older design or something. Really not the end of the world in terms of global crises etc., and I was very calm about pushchair going missing for several days. Wheelchair escort chap in UK remarked how tolerant we were. Am a very pragmatic 'worse things at sea' person. Just a bit miffed though!

kissme, I am not surprised but interested to hear the stories!
Just an accident the purse was with the pushchair. I really didn't think anyone would be interested in a broken personalised leather bracelet!

Oh that IS annoying.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 31/08/2013 16:46

Was the pushchair still tagged? I'm wondering if someone went through the compartment to see if they could figure out who the pushchair belonged to, and once they got separated the purse got lost?

Catsize · 31/08/2013 17:32

It didn't have the tag on. At least I don't think it did. There was a brown label attached which had had a white somethingorother stapled to it at some point. If looking through to identify owner (which would obviously be a good thing), surprised bracelet not put back, as clearly unidentifiable unless using DNA techniques (!) and purse should have been returned with pushchair. No covering note or anything. Would have been nice to have a 'Hurrah! We have found your pushchair. Sorry you have been without one for a week and here is a free flight to the destination of your choice with a 5* hotel thrown in for good measure'. Maybe I am just old-fashioned.
