paint on our car

We've been away for a few days, leaving one of our cars at home. On street parking. Whilst we were sexy our neighbor has had his fence painted, our car is now covered in a multitude of little brown dots down one side, quite clearly from their fence paint, it matches lovely.

They aren't going to wash or even rub off easily.

My DH mentioned it to the woman who denied all knowledge. DH asked which company done it so there's someone with some liability insurance but turns out they paid someone cash in hand. We know who he is, a local unemployed guy who often knocks on doors looking for odd jobs.

She used the age old "I'll need to talk to my husband" cop out.

Am I being unreasonable in thinking they should take responsibility and pay for sorting this out?

While we were sexy?

We're always sexy! That should read while we were away

Ah! Makes a bit more sense. I was going to say if you were being sexy, then you were clearly preoccupied with the job in hand, otherwise you would have noticed the slapping of paint outside. Grin

Ask for their home insurance details as you want to make a claim

RoastedCouchPotatoes · 31/08/2013 14:00

Grin I thought 'while we were sexy' didn't seem to fit..

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 31/08/2013 14:07

Would their home insurance cover it as they paid someone else to do it?

Your neighbours would need to approach their home insurers, and if they weren't willing to you would need to pursue it through the smalls claims process. I think the home insurer would try to avoid the claim as it was paid work and it would be pushed on to the guy who did the painting. It may get pushed back to the home insurer though.

I think the best idea to start with is to come to a mutual agreement between you, possibly with them contacting their insurer.

Google 'claying a car' this will most likely get the little paint spots off.
