Surely it must be against the rules somewhere, that you cant just knock on someones door at this time of night

We've had this tonight. One of the charity's that equips people with household items to sell. When I said it was inconvenient I got a really arsey response. Wish I'd found out which organisation it was first as am fuming!!!

Yonionekanobe · 30/08/2013 21:09

So angry in fact that I've lost control of grammar. Apostrophe/plural fail!

PoppyWearer · 30/08/2013 21:10

I've had that at 8pm on a Friday night before and gave them an earful, before cancelling my direct debit because I was already a donor to their charity. Not any more! AngryAngry

Goinggreytoosoon · 30/08/2013 21:11

He was british heart foundation. I do donate to charity when i want too, but i dont think they should be able to go door to door.

We had this a few months back, similar time of night. My GSD goes mental if anyone knocks at night, something I have never discouraged either. I had hold of her collar as I opened the door, she was still barking constantly, the man at the door was so scared, he backed right off from the door step :) No much was needed to be said to him !

Tuon · 30/08/2013 21:13

They are allowed to knock until nine. I did it for a few weeks. Desperate for work and used it to get a better job in an office.

I know they're a pain and they cost the charity money. But I remember how desperate I was when I took a commission only job where I had to work 9-9 six days a week.

Google Cobra door to door sales. It's young people struggling fior their first job and lots of desperate parents.

And I am honestly sorry to anyone I bothered during my time in the job, truly.

I HATE that charities do that and it feels like harassment. I'm always trying to be nice and polite (only as I wish we had money to throw at charities) but its really wearing.

morleylass · 30/08/2013 21:21

I was collecting last night, you are asked not to go collecting after 9 pm. I found the evening was quite a good time because people had been out at work were at back home, it was before 8 though.
I'm not money grabbing, I was just picking up envelopes that I had delivered if people didn't want to give that's fine.
I feel very sorry for people whose lives can't continue after the kids go to bed in case someone might knock on the door!
Some people's attitudes are amazing, I hope you or your families never have to use the services of any charities!

KirjavaTheCat · 30/08/2013 21:25

Had one last week for a blind children's charity. At 9pm!

DP invited him in and signed up for monthly installments, he was here for 45 minutes Hmm

I did think it was very late and inconvenient I wanted to watch Breaking Bad in my bra. DP's defense was that the guy must have been working overtime, so thought he'd give him a break.

Goinggreytoosoon · 30/08/2013 21:27

No need to feel sorry for me my life does continue after dcs are in bed!!! Which is why i dont want my friday night interupting my someone trying to give me the hard sell on donating to charity, the door knockers that we get dont want money they want bank details!! They get stroppy when you tell them its too late to be calling, i would just be the same if the phone rang and it was a charity collecting. Like i said i do donate but when i want to

I was quite shocked to have a charity person knock on the door the other night. I do find it intrusive. I give monthly to a few charities that I want to give to and don't like to feel badgered in my own home that I should be giving to more.

Yonionekanobe · 30/08/2013 22:19

I would rather my life continue post-children's bedtime without strangers knocking on the door. I give to, and work with, a number of charities including holding two trusteeships. There is no need for charities to fundraise in this way.
