To think size 12 is not "heavy"

CruCru · 30/08/2013 18:51

I keep seeing comments on here from people who are size 10/12 who think they are heavy. I would never think this is even remotely heavy, just a healthy slim size.

OP posts:
BlingBang · 01/09/2013 19:12

I'm 5ft 6 and went 9stone or just below after my first child. Looked awful, way too gaunt for me as I probably have a naturally more athletic build. Best at about 9.5 stone and size 10 or 11ish. Now a flabbier size 12 and about 10.5 stone and don't feel slim at all. Felt huge when I was 14 edging into a 16. It's way more complicated than just saying anyone a size 12 is slim or a healthy size.

And I'm a 38 bra size, what's with the bra size thing?

BlingBang · 01/09/2013 19:14

Metalgoddess - are we reading the same thread - disagree entirely. Only folk making blanket statements lie a size 12 is slim sound deluded.

Metalgoddess · 01/09/2013 19:17

We are reading the same thread, size 12 is slim generally and anyone thinking otherwise has problems and is deluded. Shame on you, disgusting. Are you all teaching your daughters to be under size 12 too?

BlingBang · 01/09/2013 19:18

Also, I usually shop in the likes of Next, M&S, Wallis, Principles and usually a size 12. Went not whistles recently and their sizes are huge. The 12s seemed easily a 14 compared to the others. Wouldn't even try and get I to 12 jeans in top shop or warehouse.

BlingBang · 01/09/2013 19:19

And you sound a bit dim.

Metalgoddess · 01/09/2013 19:19

Why would that be BlingBang?

hettienne · 01/09/2013 19:21

Size 12 isn't slim if you are short and overweight though Metalgoddess! It might be slim if you are average height, it might be underweight if you are very tall.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 01/09/2013 19:21

Oh God, how many times?
Nobody is saying all size 12 women are heavy/fat.
Endless people are pointing out that ^it is possible to be size 12 and to be carrying excess weight/be heavy'.

It's to do with your frame/ height/ build/ where you carry excess weight - a five foot small framed woman with a big spare tyre could easily be heavy and overweight for her frame and fit a 12.

Why oh why oh bloody why can't some people see the reasonableness of this?

Size 12 is a clothes size.
The body shape of the person inside the clothes can be unhealthy and yes, carrying unhealthy excess fat.
Clothes size is not a definition of health or slimness.
Gah.

MrsOakenshield · 01/09/2013 19:23

I think the thread has shown, quite clearly, that it depends, and that on some women size 12 is a perfectly healthy size, and on others, like myself, it isn't. I don't see anything wrong with being aware of the health issues surrounding being overweight.

Talkinpeace · 01/09/2013 19:25

ALL body types should be accepted without derogatory comments
unless by speaking up you are saving that person from further long term damage to their health (thin or fat)

size 12 is slim generally
that depends entirely on which brand of size 12 and from which decade
more often than not size 12 correlates to a heavier than healthy BMI

Are you all teaching your daughters to be under size 12 too
too right
DD is a size 8-10 and looks great. She has scrawny friends and chubby friends. She knows that the ideal size is fit and reasonably lean.

BlingBang · 01/09/2013 19:26

Dim and rude as you obviously can't grasp the concept that shorter women (and others) can be carrying a lot of flab and still be a 12 and calling posters who discussing this shameful and disgusting is rather rude. Plus it depends where you shop - a 12 now is not what we knew 12 20 years ago to be.

Metalgoddess · 01/09/2013 19:27

I give up, I'm not saying anymore on this thread, kiss my big, fat size 12 arse goodbye xxx

Alisvolatpropiis · 01/09/2013 19:30

Metal are you being deliberately dim?

And no, I'll be teaching my future daughters and sons the finer points of having a healthy diet, exercising and knowing what size is right for them. HTH

WorraLiberty · 01/09/2013 19:31

I give up, I'm not saying anymore on this thread, kiss my big, fat size 12 arse goodbye xxx

Thank god for that

Now this thread can go back to the normal, sensible posts without the amateur dramatics.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 01/09/2013 19:33

Noooooooo! Won't someone think of the children?

IcedCoffeeQueen · 01/09/2013 19:38

Im 5'6 and at a todays 12 im fat, I've spent most of my adult life at a 12 and finally managed to get down to a 10 I still have plenty fat to lose around my stomach, I weigh 8s 10 which is not particularly heavy but carry all my fat on my bum and lower tummy. I measure 27" around my narrowest waist under my ribs and 36" around my hips but the muffin top area between measures 35" and this is the fatty bit I need gone I can hold handfuls of it, I recently went down to 8 stone 3 and measured an inch in each area more than I do now 6 pounds heavier because im now working out and toning im slowly getting results.

I have pictures of me in underwear (my progress pics) at a 12 and im obviously very fat around the middle with the beginnings of a double chin. A friend of mine is a 12 and taller and looks great much leaner and solid looking.

Another friend is 5'2 and a size 6 she weights little over 7 stone I have known her all my life and she has always been petite and perfectly in proportion, I cant imagine any bigger on her tiny frame, she doesn't look at all gaunt we have always joked about her cherub cheeks, she has curves and boobs and is just meant to be small, I think weight is very individual we are not all made up the same

RussiansOnTheSpree · 01/09/2013 19:38

metal I'm not teaching my DDs to be anything. DD1 is a size 6, she's 15. She's 5'1". She's small and compact, with muscular legs, not skinny ones. Her BF is about 5'7" and a size 10 and looks really skinny and willowy, because of her height.

BlingBang · 01/09/2013 19:43

Icedcoffeequeen - wow aren't we all different. just measured my waist and hips because of this thread as had no idea what I was.

I'm 5 ft 6 too but weigh over 10 stone, have 34 waist and 40 hips and am also a size 12 who needs to lose weight and tone up.

BsshBossh · 01/09/2013 19:46

Trucks I'll join you in flinging self dramatically to floor.

BlingBang · 01/09/2013 19:46

Icedcoffequeen - you sound quite light for your height and quite slim everywhere other then your middle. You doing anything to concentrate on that area?

UseHerName · 01/09/2013 19:47

woah! what's been going on here?! I thought this was a thread to discuss differences in the female body, not to degenerate each other!?

by the way I nipped into M&S today and picked myself up a pair of size ten jeans, which nipped Saturday's jean-shopping misery in the bud Grin

IcedCoffeeQueen · 01/09/2013 19:49

yep, ive just looked at my chart from when I started losing the recent weight, I was 10 stone 4 which is where id averaged for about 7 years, my upper waist was 30" my lower muffin top waist was 38" and my hips were 39" I wore a 12 mostly pushing a 14 sometimes but refused to buy that size and frequently left dressing rooms upset

Im pretty happy with my narrow waist and hip measurements just need to lose the fat in the middle!

IcedCoffeeQueen · 01/09/2013 19:50

just seen your other post, im focusing on toning now and ignoring the scales, im doing 30 day shred (on day 26 tomorrow) and come down an inch in each area since starting im hoping the fatty middle bit will keep burning away

BlingBang · 01/09/2013 19:57

Started the 30 day shred, Loved it. Didn't notice a difference in weight but only got to day 16 and really felt diffent and looser in clothing. She also does a tummy/ abs work out DVD - think it's also on youtube.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 01/09/2013 20:00

Six week six pack is a good Shred follow up and is HIIT with focus on core. Am on day 3 after completing Shred last week and its awesome.
