To feel sorry for this girl

I was out in town this morning and noticed a little girl who could have been no more than 5. She was incredibly overweight to the point she could not walk properly. I work with enough children to know that sometimes this can be caused by SN / medication etc so I try not to judge as I have no idea what the cause is.

The girl was in in front of me and I became very aware of people doing a double take, stopping walking and staring at the girl. Surely it isn't right for adults to be behaving in this way and it made me feel quite sad that she might be aware of it.

I lived in the same street as that obese 8 year old who was nearly taken away from their parents...

I tried not to look but people would stare. he lost some weight but was still big.

who knows the causes of anything

I was really sad when I saw a very overweight young girl (6, 7?) at the zoo the other day. They were all playing in the little water area and she was noticeably conscious of herself - pulling at her top to cover her tummy while her little friends ran around carefree and comfortably. Regardless of why she's like that, I was just genuinly sad for her. I've struggled with my weight alot and that was me at her age. Poor girl.

I think some people are simply not aware of what they're doing.

I didn't realise I was staring at a young lad with one of those huge hoop earrings that stretches the earlobe the other day. I was looking at it wondering if I could fit my whole hand through the hole, until DH nudged me and told me to stop staring at him.

You were looking at her too.
