Our local library layout means you walk through the public computer access area to get to the children's section.

Leaving the library this afternoon with my two DC, I saw a man on a computer looking at explicitly sexual pictures of women. DC didn't seem to notice. The computer was right next to the main walkway through the computer area and the screen was visible from a good distance away. The screen was on a pedestal which you stood next to to use. I got a bit of a shock, and went to a librarian and told her what I'd seen. I didn't hang around as we were leaving and were with friends (they didn't see the screen).

I phoned them later to ask what the outcome of the situation was and they said they can't give me any information.

AIBU to find that strange?

OP posts:
SolidGoldBrass · 30/08/2013 14:13

The man was probably looking at the Miley Cyrus twerking malarkey anyway...

MrsHoarder · 30/08/2013 14:18

To be fair unless they can call the police over it the only thing they could do is rescind his library internet access rights (I'm sure my library internet agreement had something about explicit content). Its not exactly something they need to share with other users.

Callani · 30/08/2013 14:48

I'd personally want to know what they'd done to ensure I wouldn't encounter a similar situation the next time I was at the library (e.g. changing the filters) but you have no rights to know what specifically happened.

FariesDoExist · 30/08/2013 14:59

YANBU

I wouldn't want my DC (or anyone's children) to see that when browsing for lift-the-flap books! Well done for reporting it, hopefully they told the loser to move on but a bit strange they couldn't tell you what happened. You'd think they'd be able to say "He was asked to leave immediately" or whatever.

EhricLovesTeamQhuay · 30/08/2013 15:11

YABU! You are just being nosy. It would be unprofessional of them to gossip with you, and that's what it would be if they told you.

AlpacaPicnic · 30/08/2013 15:12

I snurked at 'lift-the-flap' - I'm a BAD alpaca!

Also totally stealing 'trunky wants a bun'

Tee2072 · 30/08/2013 15:16

What's it to you? You saw something you presumed was bad. You reported it.

Move on. Get over it.

Ilovemyself · 30/08/2013 15:17

Trunky want a bun. Pmsl.

YABU. It's between the library and the man concerned. No one else.

Arnie123 · 30/08/2013 15:35

I would not worry about it tbh.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 30/08/2013 15:39

Who or what is Trunky and why does he / she / it want a bun?

SaskiaRembrandtVampireHunter · 30/08/2013 15:47

"Who or what is Trunky and why does he / she / it want a bun?"

This ^

UriGeller · 30/08/2013 15:57

Okay, I'm so going to be blurting out loud "Trunky wants a bun" this weekend and outing myself as an MNer Grin

SirChenjin · 30/08/2013 16:03

When you say the 'outcome of the situation', what exactly did you want to know?

TroublesomeEx · 30/08/2013 16:21

Trunky wants a bun! That's fucking brilliant!!!

Yep, sorry OP, you did the right thing by telling them (I would have done the same) but beyond that, it's NOYB.

Tee2072 · 30/08/2013 16:42

I must be really stupid because I have no idea why "trunky wants a bun" is funny or brilliant. It means nothing.

UnicornsNotRiddenByGrownUps · 30/08/2013 16:52

There's probably not much they can tell you.

WTF does trunky wants a bun mean? Is it something about elephants? Elephants have trunks and like bunks?

WorraLiberty · 30/08/2013 16:57

Loving 'trunky wants a bun' Grin

Jeez it only happened this afternoon and if they've got a problem with their porn filters, they probably don't want to advertise it.

Housemum · 30/08/2013 16:59

I've used that phrase before, means that you're poking your nose in - and elephants allegedly like buns. So kind of pointing out that you're being nosy by suggesting you might be an elephant and therefore would like a bun. (You can tell it's quiet at work here...)

SaskiaRembrandtVampireHunter · 30/08/2013 17:06

Thank you, Housemum :)

Tee2072 · 30/08/2013 17:13

Okay. Thanks Housemum.

Bowlersarm · 30/08/2013 17:17

Thank you for explanation Housemum I can stop being Confused now and move on.

YABU.

You reported, end of your involvement.

helenafalco · 30/08/2013 17:23

Am intrigued as to why you would want to know? YABVU

Alisvolatpropiis · 30/08/2013 17:24

Yabu.

You reported it. End of. They are under no obligation to tell you what the outcome was.

ColdfeetPinksocks · 30/08/2013 17:34

The library will likely have a policy about acceptable computer use which I'd expect to tell you consequences for violation of policy.

QueenofallIsee · 30/08/2013 17:44

Erm what do you need to know for? You saw inappropriate use of a public service & reported it. Why is the next bit relevent to you at all?
