yanbu.

of course.

it's very good for children to be able to entertain themselves- it stops "i'm bored!" when they're older

(well, delays it slightly)
(very slightly)

squoosh · 29/08/2013 17:21

Oh that would be completely neglectful, your poor 10 month old. Shame on you.

not really, get stuck in

hettienne · 29/08/2013 17:21

Why, are you supposed to just watch them play Confused

TrinityRhino · 29/08/2013 17:21

why wouldn't you?
what do you think you're supposed to be doing?

soaccidentprone · 29/08/2013 17:22

Well unless you want to be a helicopter parent, I suggest you start reading ASAP.

Independent play is good for children Grin

MarianForrester · 29/08/2013 17:24

Far from BU, you are actually ensuring that dc becomes gifted and talented from learning from your fine example: reading actual books.

You are,in fact, duty bound to continue to sit and read Grin

AugustaCarp · 29/08/2013 17:28

I feel like I'm meant to be watching and or interacting? I love DD more than anything, but it can get tedious...

OP posts:
hettienne · 29/08/2013 17:30

If you interact constantly you'll end up with a 3 year old who can't play alone for 2 minutes without an adult directing them. Make a cuppa, sit on the sofa and read your book.

MrsHoarder · 29/08/2013 17:35

Have some chocolate too in a few months she'll be old enough to demand it whenever you sneak a square

MortifiedAdams · 29/08/2013 17:36

YABU.

Sit.on the couch.

DigestivesAndPhiladelphia · 29/08/2013 17:50

Read your book. I made the mistake of constantly interacting with my PBF. He is now 8 and cannot occupy himself for more than five minutes.

I ignore the younger ones as much as possible and they are turning out well Grin

GroupieGirl · 29/08/2013 18:23

Ah, the last great parenting taboo...admitting that your children are boring! Grin

mine is

Eilidhbelle · 29/08/2013 18:47

Depends. Which book is it? I'm always looking for recommendations.

HamwidgeAlive · 29/08/2013 18:57

I always felt guilty for not interacting but did force myself to read the internets a good book sometimes.

PurplePidjin · 29/08/2013 19:06

I mn or do the dreaded housework while my 9mo investigates the tv and phone his treasure basket. When else can we catch a break?! Wine

ShadowSummer · 29/08/2013 20:25

YANBU. And you're setting a good example by showing your DD that books are fun to read Wink

Besides, if your DD is anything like my DS, she'll be quick to let you know if she actually wants you to join in with playing with her toys.

NapaCab · 29/08/2013 20:29

No, read your book. In 6 months time, or less, your DD will be grabbing the book out of your hand and bugging you to play with her so read the book now while you still can!

I regret not taking advantage of the baby years now that DS is a toddler Grin

wibblyjelly · 29/08/2013 20:40

I read while 11 month old ds plays. He comes over every so often, I play with him, and when he gets bored of me, I go back to reading Smile
