Spray them down with antibacterial spray?

Yes I have OCD and am obsessive about hand washing and germs :o

But I am not unreasonable to wash my hands after using the toilet, especially public ones surely

I use anti bac gel in the toilet after each time as I am allergic to soap. You would not know this so would be berating me, wrongly. Mind your own business.

misshoohaa · 28/08/2013 20:27

YANBU - saw someone cone out of a public loo casually swipe their hands under the water with no soap and nearly asked them to kindly wash them properly. I didn't but really wishes I did when I then had to pull open the door after them.

It's not that hard. Soap. Water. Scrub.

jacks365 · 28/08/2013 20:32

I use an anti bac gel because I often find public toilets have run out of soap.

Clawdy · 28/08/2013 20:37

I was washing my hands at the washbasin in the toilets in Marks and Spencer, and watched as a young mum with a toddler emerged from the end cubicle and walked out straight past me. Five minutes later I saw them at a table in the cafe, eating sandwiches! I gave her rather a cold stare. Weeks later I used the same cubicle and found that unlike the others, there was a little washbasin inside it....Blush

LadyBeagleEyes · 28/08/2013 20:38

I always wash my hands but still think it's none of your business.

Catsize · 28/08/2013 20:52

Do it!
Especially to those men who emerge from the loos still doing up their trousers.
I really don't want to indirectly touch their willies on door handles. Euch!

surroundedbyblondes · 28/08/2013 20:57

I hate washing my hands in public loos as I usually find them minging. I have antibac hand gel which I use instead.

lotsofdirections · 28/08/2013 21:06

Like many others I use anti bac hand gel after I have opened the door, something my oncologist told me to do whilst I was having chemo. What is the point of washing your hands then touching the door?

mikkii · 28/08/2013 21:09

When I was in Brussels in April, I went to the loo, obviously a cubicle, but when I came out there was a guy using a urinal next to the handbags in. No way was I stopping to wash my hands there, I used my bottle of antibacterial gel, then later lent it to our companion for the same reason!

mikkii · 28/08/2013 21:09

Handbags? Handbasin obviously Grin

TooMuchRain · 28/08/2013 21:14

I didn't know some people couldn't wash but generally I don't think you are U. I notice at work that people often don't wash if they don't realise there is no-one in there, but if they see someone else by the sinks/mirrors they always do. Apparently a picture of eyes over the sink also increases hand-washing!

MimsyBorogroves · 28/08/2013 21:20

I use antibacterial spray - most cheap soap in public loos makes my hands sore.

Fakebook · 28/08/2013 21:33

I think YABU and I'll tell you why.

When I was pregnant with DS I went to the toilet in the surgery to do a wee for a sample whilst I waited for the doctor. When I was inside some woman started banging on the door desperate to go in, but I took my time, washed my hands (as I ALWAYS do) and dried them on the hand towels and threw them in the bin and came out. As I came out she made a comment under her breath about something being "disgusting", but I ignored it.

Then after she'd finished, she came and sat down with her partner and started making weird passive aggressive comments about how it's disgusting people don't wash their hands. Then I looked up and she was looking at me and then looked at her partner and said "disgusting. Disgusting not washing your hands. She didnt wash her hands".

I was 38weeks pregnant, massive, in pain and just couldn't be arsed to start a discussion with the barking dog about how I HAD washed my hands and then DRIED them.

So, yes, it's disgusting when people don't wash their hands and I always believe everyone should, but there is no way on earth I'd follow someone and tell them to wash them, because they might have washed or cleaned them another way already.

LaGuardia · 28/08/2013 21:36

Antibac gel doesn't work on the norovirus, so good luck out there all you non-washers.

Turniptwirl · 28/08/2013 23:31

At every farm and zoo I've been to lately they have signs saying you have to use soap (which they provide at washing stations not just in the toilets. No doors there!) as antibacterial gel and wipes don't get rid of all the animal bacteria

I do agree its gross touching the door handle right after washing your hands though. Maybe extra sinks outside toilets?

I'm amazed so many people take that much notice of other people in toilets. I'm usually just washing my hands and sorting out my own stuff and really don't notice (or care) what other people are up to unless they are friends or relatives of mine. Not washing your hands isn't nice but if you're just having a wee urine is sterile and your hands are mainly touching the toilet paper anyway.

FannyMcNally · 28/08/2013 23:53

I don't understand why the outer doors in public toilets don't have the pull handle when you go in and the push plate when you go out. Then us hand washers don't immediately get contaminated because we can push open the door with our elbows or shoulder.

This gave me a giggle cos I was in a similar situation in Marks one day. There was a hand basin tn the cubicle, and I suspected that other people would wonder as I sailed out the door...

Anti bacterial gel got me (and the family) through weeks in India and we had no bugs, no stomach problems and were fine. I am allergic to soap and it brings me up in all sorts of rashes which weep, itch and, often, bleed. Sorry if this offends the hand washers. Actually, not sorry. Don't care what you think. My hands, my hygiene routine.
