to feel so dowdy and not well dressed?

Went out for a friends birthday meal over the weekend. There were 7 women, one of them complimented everyones dress apart from mine. I know this was not done deliberately but it still hurt.

Another friend recently asked what I was wearing to an event we are going to, I said I wasn't sure but wouldn't be wearing jeans. Her response "you're not going to wear jeans?! I can always rely on your to wear jeans!"

These are just snippets really. I don't need or expect compliments it's just it makes me feel so dowdy Sad

I too am known for my jean wearing (most of the time) ! Are you in a position to go out and treat yourself to a few new bits and pieces ? Im sure you look lovely and maybe your just having a bit of a downer (Im always putting myself down so I know what it feels like). There are lots of sales on at the moment, maybe pop out and get a new haircut (that always makes me feel better about myself) get yourself in the mood with a hair style magazine to peruse and a bottle of wine tonight. Have a luxurious bath and pamper yourself, then treat yourself to a new top and bracelet to match. Maybe pick a colour top that goes with one of your favourite pairs of shoes and an accessory (bracelet, scarf, bag) that ties in with the same theme....you'll look and feel great. If money's an issue, scour the charity shops and pop to your local college for a haircut, it doesn't have to cost a lot....go on, your worth it !
Disclaimer.... I am not a style guru just watch too many make over programmesGrin

Claire depends what you dress for; if you're comfortable, you dress for your lifestyle, within budget and are happy with what you wear then ignore them :)

Everyone gets moments when they feel a bit down about their appearance. Do you actually feel like you want a wardrobe/grooming overhaul?

Do you feel like a change?

If so ...

I know I went though a stage where I was just a bit fed up with myself. I was a SAHM and there was just no need for certain kinds of clothes. But some small changes can ,ean you still feel comfortable but a bit smarter/more fashionable

I started focussing on:

Nice shoes/boots
Nice coats/jackets
Colour - I had my colours "done" years ago by a friend's mum and it really gave me the confidence to pick out things to try and discount others on the basis of colour

I also get ideas from what friends wear. Some of my friends just have an inate sense of style and panache that I lack. Not expensive, either (although some of them buy a lot of second-hand designer stuff on ebay and get real bargains)

I've just kitted myself out with loads of 'new' clothes from a carboot. I got there late and lots were packing up so selling stuff really cheap, I spent £4.
I've had countless comments, the most I've had in years. It's been a massive ego boost.
