because really they are odd. Huge georgian building, not much problem with noise carrying but anytime lo cries at night or yaks during the day cue stompy jumping about upstairs. Very weird, do they think that's going to quiet the child down or something? what be the logic pray tell?

How odd. They're having a little tantrum every time they hear you downstairs? Let them stomp.
If they want to come and talk to you about soundproofing like adults, deal with them then.
You could possibly tell them that you know exactly how they feel about noise travelling as you can hear every step taken upstairs. Wink

It is weird, I don't know them but I do know there is another baby in the flat above them so they are sandwiched between small people but really these are solid flats, they need to learn that children don't have mute buttons or off switches perhaps? Or maybe they think we parents torture small people to make them cry and the stomping is rescuing?? It would be most fun if they were to add to the population and find out the obvious way. I shall continue to ignore the stompy gits although must confess I did call through a little loudly to ds when he woke crying "not to worry it is just the noisy people upstairs keeping you awake..."

Sometimes noise carries in strange ways- if you haven't been in their flat when the baby cries then you can't really say anything.

They are entitled to walk about in their own house too. They haven't complained to your or anything have they?

soontobeslendergirl · 27/08/2013 23:12

Maybe they are trying to be particularly quiet because you have a baby, but when the baby is crying, they think that's the perfect time to do their noisy stuff as they know they wont be waking the baby?

anonnymousey · 27/08/2013 23:13

they walk about lots quite normally as did the people who lived there before, when lo chats or cries the ceiling bounces and the lighting fixtures shake, trust me they are really going for it!

Could they just be making luuurve and trying to fulfil your wishes?

I never had the kind of love that involves kangaroo hopping from one room into another into another but am willing to believe such athleticism exists, must be short lived though - maybe it's a kangaroo climax!

Go upstairs and ask them if something's wrong, as you can hear an awful noise coming from their flat and wanted to check they're ok?

Do they have wooden floors?

anonnymousey · 27/08/2013 23:38

yy to wooden floors and ancient building et al. They moved in about three months ago I think - big party followed by diy - usual new pad stuff. elephantitis has been going on for a couple of months now, I think one of them works from home so we probably do their heads in but thems the breaks and we are out/away a lot. Not sure I have the cahunas to go upstairs!

My neighbour was exactly the same & would bang in the floor in the middle of the night too - absolute dickheads.

Once when I was at the end of my tether with an ill baby I used an umbrella and banged back. Not very mature I know but it stopped them doing it for awhile!

We moved now but the people we sold the flat too had a baby as well - ha ha ha!

GalaxyDefender · 28/08/2013 07:29

My neighbour was the same, and we were the upstairs neighbours so he actually had to go out of his way to bang the ceiling!

Some people are just intolerant of child noise. IME, they tend to expect you to magically switch off your child, or expect you to move away so they can have peace and quiet. Because of course if a two-bed place comes up it's going to be a childless person/couple who takes it Hmm
