To be taken aback by pregnancy exhaustion?

I'm pg w DC3 (dd is nearly 5 and DS is nearly 2) and suffering from insomnia. I know I'm v v lucky to be having anor child and I'm v grateful for the 2 I have but I am utterly floored by how tired I am. I even napped for an hour today but I still feel utterly spaced. DH has been off work for 2 weeks till today so I've had huge naps most days but now he's back at work, reality has hit.

How did I forget how exhausting pregnancy is?!

I was exactly the same the third time! I'm an energetic person by nature and worked FT in a physical job through the first 2 pregnancies but the last time it really hit me.
YANBU at all.

When I was pregnant with DD I was working as a waitress and vividly remember the sheer exhaustion when I'd get in from a shift. I would drag myself in, drop on the couch and that was me. Luckily I had dp there to bring me tea and cook dinner for me. I'd manage to stay awake till about 7-8pm and then I was out like a light.

I was slightly anaemic, though, might have been down to that.

NotYoMomma · 27/08/2013 15:48

I am currently lying in bed with the window open and dd (18 months) playing next to me just so I can lie down.

I never had this with dd pregnancy but I am totally and utterly wiped out.

my dh informed me I was pregnant at 2 weeks because he could tell straight away how tired I was Shock
I had a bfn and was all 'see?' but then got my bfp 3 days later Sad

hate it when he is right

DontWannaBeObamasElf · 27/08/2013 15:49

I slept through the first trimester. I'd get up at 7, be at college for 9, home by 4, sleeping until 6-7, tea and something to drink then bed 8-7.

MamaTo3Boys · 27/08/2013 15:54

I was wiped out with my third too. I slept through first trimester (luckily my sister was staying with me so she helped out with the kids)

Second trimester was when the illnesses started :( was extremely drained due to constant kidney infections. And through the 6 week summer hols too! And sister had moved out.

Third trimester was still really tired and ill but luckily the kids were back in school so had the mornings to myself until I had to pick DS2 up from morning nursery

It's totally normal to feel wiped out during pregnancy. Wish I could tell its like you see on tv where they all feel wonderful but unfortunately its not lol

Apparentlychilled · 27/08/2013 16:36

Yy- SO not like on tv! And my Dsis has a newborn, so I'm under no illusions that it'll be so much easier when the baby arrives. Aaagh!

Today hasn't been too awful, mainly because I've used the tv as a babysitter extensively. Hmm, not great parenting, but I figure it's a matter of getting through the day/pregnancy.

Have you had your iron levels tested? I was a zombie in my 1st trimester with DD2 but once I got iron tablets I felt MUCH better.

Apparentlychilled · 28/08/2013 18:46

That's a good point Jimmy- seeing gp next week, so will ask for a blood test.

I am almost 30wks in my second pregnancy and in the first trimester was like a zombie. I'd come in from work and just sleep on the couch while DH sorted out ds and cooked dinner!
Wasn't anaemic either!
Felt better during the second trimester but starting to feel well and truly knackered again now, and got to work until 39 weeks....... Not quite sure how but need the money to cover the mortgage or I have to go back earlier!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHopeful · 29/08/2013 07:54

pineapple you are working till 39 weeks Shock ooh that sounds awful.

Pregnancy sucks, the exhaustion is appalling. I seem to be really run down and am catching every damn bug that's going round.

TroublesomeEx · 29/08/2013 08:17

It is so hard!

I wasn't so bad with the tiredness during my second pregnancy, but during the first I could barely keep my eyes open and could have slept 24/7 I think, given the opportunity!

I really think that, as a species, we should have adapted better to this pregnancy lark by now. Angry

pianodoodle · 29/08/2013 08:37

It's awful I'm 24 wks with DC2 now and for the first 12 or so had to insist DD (2) started having an afternoon nap with me even though she hates napping!

In the end I just locked us both in the bedroom and fell asleep for half an hour even though she was just sitting beside me on the bed reading books!

I remember being exhausted and pukey the first time too but at least then no one was jumping on my head going "wake up mummy wake up mummy!"

Hope it doesn't last too long for you!

PumpkinPie2013 · 29/08/2013 08:59

YANBU at all! I'm on my first pregnancy so no other children to look after but I have found it really tough Sad

First 13 weeks was awful with sheer exhaustion and awful sickness/nausea. That cleared but since then it just seems to be one thing after another.

Aches and round ligament pain coupled with low blood pressure and a very active baby waking me up with kicks and pokes every night means I'm shattered and feeling dizzy/faint a lot.

I have a very busy, demanding job and work haven't even started sorting my maternity cover yet Sad

Supposed to be working another 8 weeks to 36 weeks but feel very tempted to go earlier. I'm off sick today as I feel so rough Sad

Hope you feel better soon x
