To expect a 4* B and B to not play music until 2am?

KillashandraRee · 25/08/2013 00:36

Staying with DS (under 2) at B and B for my friends wedding and the pub has a late license and is playing dance music loudly. Their website says "we offer the perfect accommodation for weekends away for families or couples". I'm not sure I know many families who would not be disturbed by loud music pumping through the floorboards until 2am, but am I out of touch? AIBU or should I complain in the morning?

its not 2am?

KillashandraRee · 25/08/2013 00:38

No but the license goes on until 2am it's not going to be turned off until then

Eugh, pull the fuse... dare you!

KillashandraRee · 25/08/2013 00:44

I'm so tempted to go downstairs and have a full on tantrum Wink but I don't think they'd hear me over Madness 'Baggy Trousers' which has just come on. The music taste is degenerating through the evening at 9.30 it was bearable!

How can you still be lying in bed when Baggy Trousers is playing? That's a must dance choon.

bemybebe · 25/08/2013 00:47

how is your ds? i would be furious and kicking major fuss. did you at least complain? it is clear misrepresentation.

Amy106 · 25/08/2013 00:47

I would definitely complain either now or in the morning. And put a review on the Internet. I hope you can get some sleep.

bemybebe · 25/08/2013 00:48

hope you will have a good night sleep from2am

KillashandraRee · 25/08/2013 00:51

Amy I've looked on trip advisor and the last three reviews are all from irate guests who have been kept awake by the music! Wish I'd read them beforehand.

DS is currently asleep on me as keeps being disturbed by music. I think I will complain in morning just don't want to upset my friend who booked it for us so will try and do it before she gets up.

Thanks bemybebe I'm hoping DS sleeps later than his usual 6am!

If I had booked rooms attached to an entertainment venue I would expect noise in the evening. If you had wanted somewhere quieter you shouldn't have booked rooms above a pub!

kalidanger · 25/08/2013 07:45

There is no such thing as a 4* B&B Grin

KillashandraRee · 25/08/2013 07:52

Went on til after 2 am. Am so tired now and face a four home drive home with just DS. Have tried to think about how to broach the fact I don't want to pay for the room but am no good at complaining. Any advice greatly appreciated. The bride (my BF) said they were going to pay deposit so I only have half the room to pay for. I feel if I complain and they take money off how do I then refund her? I don't want her and her new DH to be upset at what a shitty night we've had as they organised it. Should I just pay up? Argh!

Trinity the wedding wasn't here and while I don't expect a pub to be quiet until eleven I didn't expect a 2am late license. TBH it didn't even cross my mind I've stayed in accommodation in various pubs over the years and never had to sleep over a disco! Confused

Put is not "an entertainment venue", unless it specifically has a dancing floor and live music... and certainly not if it advertises itself providing family-friendly accommodation.

I would go to the reception and as to see the manager on duty straight away. Explain that you went there expecting a restful night, instead you were both kept away by the music until early hours... You didn't get what you promised (family=friendly accommodation) and ask what is s/he prepared to do for you under the circumstances as it was surely not the norm or they are misrepresenting themselves.

bemybebe · 25/08/2013 08:43

"Pub" (not put)

KillashandraRee · 25/08/2013 08:52

Just spoken to the bride and they didn't even stay they went home! Apparently there was a lock in as license is only until 1am. Am going to be brave and talk to the manager.

How did it go OP?

KillashandraRee · 26/08/2013 06:49

No one was there in the pub in the morning, all locked up until 11am and I had to leave at 9ish so left without paying! DH called them to discuss the music/ lock in etc. We're now waiting to hear back from them about what they are going to offer us off the room rate.

Good luck with your complaint, be careful not to shout or swear.
I think a good opening would be surprise and hurt over their views of 'family friendly' accommodation and feign interest in how their music when on so much longer than their licence allows when it is legally binding.
You could say you hope their idea of an appropriate discount matches yours....

maddy68 · 26/08/2013 19:34

I would assume that a b&b with a late music licence would be playing music... Late!

Tuppenceinred · 26/08/2013 19:41

I expect they took card details to secure the booking and will charge that.

WhereDoAllTheCalculatorsGo · 26/08/2013 19:47

How did the breakfast thing work if the place was all locked up? It sounds very unprofessional, I'd be kicking up a right fuss if I were you. Tell them you expect not to be charged and write a review on tripadviser about the noise.

KillashandraRee · 27/08/2013 19:59

Final update: The manager called DH back and apologised and they haven't charged us for the room.

Wow, that is great. I would be happy to stay somewhere pleasant and pay for the great service, but as you had a crappy night that is the best they could do for you. Well done for standing your ground.
