To think maternity clothes are utter shit?

I'm 25 weeks pregnant with DC2 so I have enough clothes to see me through, but today I was at a big shopping centre so thought I'd see what was out there and maybe get something a bit trendy from Topshop or similar.

Well fuck me, maternity clothes are such a load of crap. Topshop had: oversized check shirts, baggy t-shirts, stretch bodycon dresses and loose jumpers. Newsflash - you don't NEED maternity versions of any of those clothes! I have baggy t-shirts and jumpers in a size or two up that are fine. Everywhere does jeans, but once you've bought the jeans that's it.

I would like a nice, fitted dress for work that's under £40 (the ones in M&P were £45 and simply horrifically ugly), or something in an actual colour (in H&M I pointed out to DH that the entire maternity section was sludge a coloured).

I don't want suggestions for where to look as I was only trying to shop for fun, you know, like normal people get to do, and I don't need anything else. It's just that it was all so very dire.

There's loads here all under 40

BrianButterfield · 24/08/2013 21:47

This dress was on a mannequin, and I swear, it's literally a sack.

I like this one

YANBU

I'm 21 weeks with DC2 and never even bought maternity clothes last time round!

I don't like the feel of the giant bump part round the bump anyway I just wear long t-shirts/jumpers and buy leggings a size bigger than normal. I keep the waistband under the bump.

Last time I got some maternity leggings and the way the waistband sat around the bump made me look like a big egg in an egg cup Grin

Yes yes, but you obv went to the wrong shop! Look at the ones in JoJoMaman above!

pianodoodle · 24/08/2013 21:49

The maternity leggings were my only maternity purchase. I'm a bit skint though I hate the thought of buying special stuff for a few months wear. At least with a dress I can still wear it again sometime.

BrianButterfield · 24/08/2013 21:50

They're just empire-line dresses though - I have two or three non-maternity ones in my wardrobe that fit fine, so I don't see why they churn out maternity versions of them all the time.

Stupid phone. New Look have nice maternity clothes for under £20.

technosausage · 24/08/2013 21:54

Newlook maternity clothes are ok, they have a huge online section just ordered a few bits myself. A bit plain but lots of jeans to chose from.

AnotherStitchInTime · 24/08/2013 21:54

You need ASOS Maternity

BeQuicksieorBeDead · 24/08/2013 21:55

I am wearing all my non-maternity empire line dresses, baggy tshirts and jumpers (I am 27 weeks) and they are fine, I can't see the point in buying maternity gear that hopefully I won't need for too long...My friend at work has given me jeans and work trousers, bless her heart.

Some of the maternity wear pedlars take the piss with their prices.

breatheslowly · 24/08/2013 21:55

Try here.

I bought all my maternity clothes from Matalan. Nice stuff, but cheap.

CreatureRetorts · 24/08/2013 22:03

YABU there is nice stuff, you just need to look online. Isabella Oliver, Next, ASOS were all good options when I was pregnant.
